Its been a while hasn't it? At least twelve years since I last saw you. I can never really decide wether you saw me or not that last time in Diagon Alley. Your were of course busy with your wife and child, then only a baby. So small and yet already he looked so much like you. True he had little hair and the infantile swell had yet to leave him. It has now though. And it has in its place left an imprint of yourself. I can see it all the more vividly when he smiles. Of course smiling is not something he does often around me. I know him , I know him because I knew you. He is as much a fool as his father. And equally as careless I believe. I teach now at Hogwarts as i'm sure you know, Potions. I excelled in the class when we were schooled together. I do believe I was always one above you there. Then again , it wasn't much , you had everything else. I am of course harder on him than the others. As well I should be. I know better than anyone the consequences of his impassioned yet thoughtless actions. His brashness is almost as much a danger to him as Voldemort. That name , holds more venom then the deadliest of my potions. Darkness is a poison that can infect deeply, sometimes an antidote comes to late. But it did not infect you, you were strong , almost immune. You were in love. It may have saved your soul James , but it did not save your life. Just as I suspect it will take more than strength to save him in the end. The love of you and your wife for that boy saved his life once maybe even twice. But it wont be able to keep out the darkness forever. Remarkable as he is , though i'll never need admit it. He is always taking risks , so were you. And like you he is always there to help a friend , or even i'll bet an enemy. May you and your wife rest Well , for I shall do everything within my power to keep your son safe. You know me James , I can be as stubborn as you once were , I never give up on the Potters wether I am for or against them. I still wonder if you saw me James, was that a hint of recognition in your eyes? Or would you have ever allowed yourself to believe it was me,
Smiling , at you.

You James Potter , were my bitterest enemy ,
and my dearest friend.
Sincerely,

Severus Snape
