Portraits in Verse
Geis of heaven, laid at birth,
Force within to guard the earth,
Might like none has ever known,
Born to fight and live alone.
Laughing smile full of good cheer,
Devout to those near and dear,
Called to play the jester's part,
Yet brave and true from the start.
Bright the flame that burns inside,
To those would fight, woe betide.
Risen to meet challenge known,
Still the maiden, not yet crone.
Knowledge of the world at hand,
Fighting that on own would stand,
Charm with grace yet wits abound,
Visions from the sight surround.
Called to watch the heaven-sent,
Wielding mind as council meant,
Teaching one who has no peer,
Could not help but interfere.
Mortal born but cursed by hell,
Fallen once by true love's spell,
Torture and pain once the art,
Suffers now through chosen part.
Fair the hair and pale the skin,
Wicked eyes that fear no sin,
Calm resolve, turmoil inside,
Light or dark, must now decide.
Quiet and calm but sharp of mind,
When moon is full, cage must bind,
As long as wolf still can mar,
Not yet through with travels far.
Called to fill the sentries' dearth,
Darker past, eyes bright with mirth,
Mistakes, cruel seeds, were sown,
Price of blood must now atone.
Proud at first, then pride is bent,
Down path of greater good went,
Fought and burned, many a tear,
But valour thrives 'neath the fear.
To fanged ones' thirst, sibling fell,
Serves the right, evil's death knell,
Free with scorn, while kind at heart,
Remains calm while troubles dart.
A thousand lives touch those named,
Thousand voices praised or blamed,
Worlds are hanging, history moulds,
Balance that time and space holds.
Optional Verse 9:
Shadow of the light's first choice,
Scorns all rules, temptations voice,
Past returns, mistakes were made,
By own choice, the price is paid.
