Misunderstood: Not So Perfect
A/N: this is my first VERY short Harry Potter fic, about Hermione, and I know its stupid, but I just made it up on the spot and I just wanted to experiment. Good fics coming later on, I promise. ~Jenna
Hermione peered over the back of the armchair at Harry and Ron, who were playing chess at a nearby table.
"Honestly you two, you'd think that you might be doing homework or something productive."
Both Ron and Harry ignored her. Hermione sighed and went back to her book: Hogwarts: A History. She had read it at least 15 times already, but she didn't have the energy to do anything else. She was tired of studying. Of course, she knew that was what everyone thought she was doing.
Hermione sighed deeply. She was stuck in the stereotype of teacher's pet. Before, she had always been proud of it. But lately she felt too sad in her world of perfectness. Everyone thought she was so smart and clever, and that she was too stuck up to be bothered with. Even Ron and Harry didn't take her seriously.
Hermione sighed again. She wanted to erase everyone's thoughts about her; she wanted to start fresh. Why couldn't she be normal? Why didn't she have any close girl friends?
Because she always had her nose in a book, and never socialized with anyone else. Hermione wandered over to where Parvati Patil and Lavender Brown were sitting, giggling.
"Hi," she said, trying to sound cool and casual. Their giggling ceased.
"Oh…. Hi Hermione," they said carelessly. Hermione noticed a magazine in Lavender's hands.
"What's that you're reading?" asking Hermione. She saw a very cute wizard waving and smiling from the cover.
"Teen Witch," said Lavender.
"Ah," said Hermione without the faintest idea of what that was.
Parvati sighed. "Isn't he the CUTEST?" she asked.
"Oh, him?" said Hermione. "Yes, I suppose so."
Both girls looked at her as if she were a sea slug. "Are you kidding?" asked Lavender. "He's the most totally and completely cutest guy on the planet!"
Hermione refrained from correcting her bad grammar. "Ah, yes I see, he's very cute isn't he?" she said.
Parvati and Lavender looked at each other and rolled their eyes. "Shouldn't you be studying or something?" asked Parvati.
Hermione forced a smile. "Yes," she whispered. "I'll go do that now."
Then she fled upstairs to the girl's dormitory and cried.
15 minutes later, she sat up and wiped her eyes. "Its no use trying to pretend that I'm someone I'm not," she said aloud. "I have to appreciate my natural smarts and not be ashamed of it. I know who I am, and if anyone doesn't like it, who cares. I am me.
And with that, she walked back downstairs, her head held high.
A/N: :::cringes::: I know that was totally stupid, but I didn't even have any time to think about it, and I PROMISE I will spend some time writing a really nice, thought-out fic. Heh, would you review anyway? It would make my day, even if it's not very nice. I'm new here and haven't a clue what I'm doing.
