The darkness was absolute. The figure glowed an eerie shade of black that
was darker than the impossibly dark sky. Vegeta stepped back, dumbstruck by
the demon's sudden increase in power. The creature smirked at this, his
leathery wings moving in the slight breeze.
"What's wrong my friend? You don't seem your usual cocky self. Is it because you've finally realised that you can't win?" the winged creature then stretched one arm above his head with the palm facing openly upwards and one to his side, crossing over his body, palm opened.
"I have a surprise for you Vegeta. It's called a 'Black Nova Blast'. It absorbs all the, how shall I say this, death energy you could call it. Its kind of like the 'Spirit Bomb' only you use 'death' as your energy supply instead of 'life'. I decided to choose you as the lucky one who gets to have the first turn." And with that the demon started to power up. Black energy gathered and suspended in the air above the hand facing upwards. The demon seemed to be having the time of his life, as he laughed wildly at the expression on Vegeta's face.
Suddenly a flash of white light pierced the darkness and the demon looked in the distance. Vegeta was amazed as the laughing creature's face slowly turned to one of pure horror. Wary, Vegeta slowly turned around to see what had caught the demon's attention.
In the distance stood. What was it? An angel? White light rippled around it and started to force back the darkness.
The demon, angered by the newcomer's arrival, threw his unfinished energy ball at Vegeta. But the newcomer had already anticipated this move and reached Vegeta before the blast.
"Hold on." The angel whispered to Vegeta before transporting them out of there. The blast hit the ground causing it to shatter.
The demon gazed lifelessly into the crater now where Vegeta had been standing.
"Soon Vegeta, I'm not finished with you yet."
*~*~*~*~*
Vegeta woke up, drenched in cold sweat, for the third time that week. How many times had he had that dream that week? Too many times. And what about the Angel. The one who had rescued him? It's voice had sounded so familiar. But who was it?
Bulma's lifeless body stirred beside Vegeta, moving closer to him. Vegeta thought back to his dream. But the images were slowly disappearing, slipping through his fingers like tiny grains of sand. 'Anyway,' Vegeta thought, laying back next to his wife, sleep taking over, 'I don't even believe in angels. And why would one want to save me?'
