Zim looked at Zik. True, she had come just to make sure he didn't screw up,
but she had become more than that. She was sympathetic to Zim, and not just
because they were both from Irk. Now, she was… crying. "Something's wrong,"
Zim deduced.
Zik whipped the tears out of her large blue eyes. "The Tallest… are calling us back."
"What?! But-but we were so close!"
"They think that Earth is useless. They're re-assigning us."
"They can't do this!" Zim cried. "We can't go back! We wont!"
"Then where will we go?" Zik asked.
"Someplace where they have never heard of Irk. Never heard of the Tallest. Never heard of us."
"Should I call Dib? So we can say goodbye?"
Zim thought for a moment. "Yes. We should call the w… Dib."
Dib's jaw dropped. Zim and Zik were leaving? They couldn't! After all of this time, they were just going to leave?! Dib didn't want to be alone again. "You can't go," he said.
"Dib, please don't make this any harder on us," Zik whispered, taking his hand. "We have no choice."
"Yes you do! I-I could hide you here! You could stay! No one would have to know!"
"Dib, don't be a fool." Zim blinked his red eyes at the boy. "We have to go."
"I won't be left alone again! I won't!"
Both of the Irken Invader's eyes widened. "Is that why you chased us?" Zim asked. "Because you lonely?"
Dib nodded, closing his eyes to try to keep Zik and Zim from seeing him cry. "Yes."
Zik shook her head. "Dib… why didn't you tell us?"
"I thought you would just laugh and try to blow me up."
Zim shrugged. "He has a point."
"Dib, I'm going to miss you. I hate to say it, but I will. Good bye."
Zik wasn't up for being an Invader any longer. She had grown attached to the humans on earth. She didn't want to leave.
Zim felt the same way. He looked down at Dib, who was standing outside, as the voot cruiser lifted off and into space.
The two Irkens would never forget the shattered look on Dib's face.
