Authors note: Being a big fan of Robert Frost, I felt it was only right to
glorify his famous poem, "The Road Less Taken" in fanfic form.

Setting: somewhere between Suikoden 1 and 2

McDohl hummed to himself as he made his way out of Banner Village and onto the
long path that would take him back home to the Toran Republic.
Kasumi was just going to love the necklace of pearls he had purchased earlier
in the day before leaving Raddat. When first he layed eyes on them, he knew there
was no fairer neck to tie them to than that of the woman he may one day call his
wife.

Two hours passed, and the trail continued on. The same trail he had followed for
many a time in his errands to and fro from home. The same path. The same boring path.
The same boring path that took five hours to cross into Toran.
Again, in his heart, McDohl felt the urge to stray from the path that lay before
him. To venture off the beaten path and go the way he chose.
No, he reminded himself. Right now, all he cared for was to get back home as
quickly as possible, as to present his beloved Kasumi with his gift. With a heavy
heart, McDohl said no to his wandering soul and continued forthe.

Another hour passed, and by now the blazing sun was directly overhead.
McDohl decided to take a break under a shady tree to rest his feet before completing
the next two hour march. As he rested, once more, he felt the urge. With it, as if
agreeing, his right hand tingled.
"Not you too..." he rubbed the rune on his hand tenderly.
Again, he refused. He rose from where he sat and decided to head off before his
foolish needs to venture off dragged him away from his self appointed task.
When he returned to the road, something surprised him.
On the road, to McDohls right, was a long, narrow clearing in the tree's.
The path diverged in the forest. A long, winding, heavy wooded path. By judging of
the tall grass and scattered twigs, the path had not been used, or rather forgotten,
for what could have been years. His mind wondered what lay beyond the path.

No...the road he was to take was plain and beaten.
Long he stood at that crossroad and stared down both.
One led safely home. The other...lord knows.

He wished he could take both...to both deliver his gift and travel the
road less taken.

McDohl withdrew the necklace from his side pouch, and palmed the silvery
white pearls in his hand.
With a heavy heart...McDohl chose his path.

McDohl hummed to himself as he made his way off the beaten path into the
forest. In his mind, he knew that one way or another, today or tomorrow, the gift
would reach his beloved Kasumi's hands.
But on his way home, the path divided into both beaten and ancient roads. And
though he wished he could have traveled both that day, he knew in his heart that
he had made the right decision for himself.

He had chosen the road less taken...
"And that..." said he to his rune,
"Is what makes all the difference..."
