It was a snowy Friday evening, the streets were empty and bars were closed. No one wanted to do anything, but these were the days Aeris loved to go out. She would take her basket of flowers out into the streets of Midgar. She never met with Cloud, ever since he saw her dying-or supposedly acting. It was all an act Aeris always thought in her head. She loved Sephiroth…but he was gone. She also had feelings for Cloud…but he was gone too. Aeris would always think about this, it was nothing special to think about, but her life was everyday routines.
Aeris walked into her favorite bar-it was the only one open too. She didn't drink much; she just drank tea or coffee.
"Evening Ms. Gainsborough, the usual?" Buron, the bartender, asked
"Yes please" Aeris said smiling.
Buron slid the drink to her gently and stopping directly in front of her. Aeris thanked him and sipped her lemon and mango tea. She looked around the bar; it was fairly crowded- more crowded than usual. Men and women were laughing and consuming alcohol all at the same time. In the distance, she saw a familiar face.
Could it be? No…it couldn't. She thought. The man raised an eyebrow and glared at her for a split-second. Aeris popped up out of her seat. It was him! It was…Cloud! Cloud stood up and walked up to Aeris.
"I thought I would find you here," Cloud whispered.
"What are you doing here?" Aeris asked suspiciously.
"The real question is…what are you doing here? You tricked us into thinking you were dead! I trusted you…"Cloud said fiercely.
"I was…naive. I-I-I had reasons!" Aeris replied," How did you find me?"
Cloud chuckled and started, "You wouldn't think I would find you here? It was either this or the home? I had my connections…knowing it was a stupid gimmick of yours. Now tell me, where is Sephiroth?"
"Sephiroth? Isn't he dead?" Aeris asked.
"I wish he were…but when I killed him…it was a decoy…I should have known," Cloud said embarrassingly.
Aeris took her feminine hand and felt his face. It was cold and rough. Cloud took a glimpse into Aeris' eyes and looked away. He wanted to be with her…but he knew it would never work.
Aeris reached into her flower basket. She dug into it until she found what she was looking for.
" Its…still here…" Aeris said quietly…almost in a whisper. She took out a large gem Sephiroth gave to her. She gave it to Cloud.
"What's this?" Asked Cloud, examining the stone.
"Sephiroth and I both had precious gems…so we could always find each other, but lately its been inactive and I assumed he was dead…" Aeris said
Cloud dropped it into his pocket and took Aeris' hand.
"C'mon, you have to help us," Cloud said
"Us? Us as in…Tifa, Barret, and the others?" Aeris asked.
Cloud sighed, "Yes, but some have retired and gone to far away lands"
Aeris smiled and gladly accepted his hand and both walked out of the pub.
"Cloud! Cloud!" A voice shouted.
Cloud turned back and looked to see who it was. It was Tifa, along with Barret and Vincent. Aeris looked at them dumbfounded. Tifa just stared at Aeris and snorted. Aeris knew that Tifa never liked Aeris, but Barret and Vincent just acted around Aeris as if nothing happened. The four of them began their journey. It would be hard and long… but someone had to do it.
