A little boy no older than four years of age stood staring at a still figure. Vegeta couldn't believe what the doctor had been saying. How could it be true? His own mother--dead! It wasn't possible! How often had he smiled at her and she smiled so sweetly back? How often had her slender hands wiped away the tears he tried so hard to hide? How often had she picked him up and laughed gently at his stubborn pouts? To think that she would never do any of these again--it just couldn't be!
A sudden sound made Vegeta spin around. His father, King Vegeta, had entered the room and was gazing at his unmoving wife. Pain flickered in his eyes, then quickly hid from his son. Tears were streaming down his son's face by now.
"F-father," he whimpered. His voice wouldn't let him say anymore, but his eyes continued to implore what his voice failed to do. They begged for his father to pick him up, to wipe his tears, and to tell him that this wasn't true. He wanted to sob in his father's arms and force him to bring his mother back.
"She's dead," King Vegeta's emotionless voice rang clearly in the silent room. "She'll be dead no matter how much you cry. Crying is admitting to defeat. I never want to see your eyes wet again." Then he turned around and left his son alone with his dead mother. The agonized howling of a baby who lost the person he loved most failed to change King Vegeta's mind. His steps never wavered as he strode back to his throne.
Vegeta fled. He had to get away. He flew, blinded by tears, not caring where he would end up. Both physically and emotionally exhausted, the young boy landed in a clearing of an uninhabited forest. There, two small fists pounded the ground. A wet puddle formed beneath the huddled figure's eyes. Why? That's all he wanted to know. Why did this have to happen? It was so unfair! His perfect mother, the loving mother who had promised him--PROMISED him that she'd never leave him. When he had crawled into her arms after anightmare, she had assured him that it would be all right--that she'd be with him no matter what. And he, like a helpless fool, had believed her without a doubt. Suddenly, the crying stopped. As the tears dried, sorrow died and anger flared in Vegeta's eyes.
WHAM! A tiny fist rammed into one of the massive trees that surrounded Vegeta. Sorrow had died, giving birth to uncontrollable rage. Hatred took over where love had once lived with his mother. Everything Vegeta wanted to believe in his mind perished along with the hope he had raised during those horrible weeks of his mother's sickness. WHAM! Promises are meaningless. WHAM! Love is nothing but pain in disguise. WHAM! Justice is only an illusion for the weak. The unsuspecting, innocent tree finally fell over with an earsplitting crash. Malicious glee shone in Vegeta's eyes. Innocence meant nothing to him. His innocent mother had died an unfair death; so had the tree. That was life. Vegeta felt no remorse.
Promises are Meaningless
Did you like? Writing it made me kind of sad.... It was just an idea I had concerning the cause of Vegeta's ruthlessness. Don't get me wrong, Vegeta fans, I love Vegeta's attitude, but he didn't seem totally evil, so I just made up what might have caused him to act this way. ^_^; Please tell me what you think of this fic in ur reviews!
