Enchantment,
Payella. (payella@hotmail.com - All praise…or not…accepted.)
Author's note: Very short fic with no actual pairings. Duo can be with anyone you wish him to be with. I intentionally gave his partner no actual gender to give readers some freedom to use their imaginations.
Warnings: SAP!
Disclaimers: Duo Maxwell does not belong to me. Duh. Neither does the first line of this fic. It was taken from 'Stargirl' by Jerry Spinelli. A very good book, I must add. Anyway, enjoy.

"Did you know there's a country with officially designated 'enchanted places'?"
I opened my eyes, lifted my head from the crook of his neck and cocked my head to the side. Duo was staring off into nothing, - or at something that I couldn't see - one bare arm draped loosely around my shoulders and the other behind his head, to protect it from the wall. It was late, or very early, depending on your point of view and the sky outside was dark, the moon barely illuminating the clouds around it. Our bedroom was lit by a small oil-lamp in the corner. Duo had spotted it in a tiny junk shop and decided that he had to have it. It was unusual, I suppose - I liked it.
I thought about what Duo had said for a moment. Enchanted places. It's a wonderfully romantic idea, isn't it? And to keep them pure sounded nice. However, I shook my head and confirmed my uncertainty with a noise from my throat.
The long-haired man smiled - I wasn't sure if it was at me or not - and tightened his grip around me. Relaxing, I layed my head back down, this time against his chest, and closed my eyes over again. It was at least a minute before Duo spoke again.
"Enchanted places. I want to take you to one."
I didn't answer, choosing to savour his words instead. The American's heart was beating in his ribcage, the rhythmic sound echoing to my ear. It was comforting.
"Would you like to go to an enchanted place?"
By this time I had found flows of his chestnut hair and was fingering it. Duo had taken it out of the regular braid, as he always does before going to sleep, and now, as we lay awake in the darkness, it was splayed around his body - covering his back, falling over slim shoulders and strands covering his face. I love his hair.
Again I opened my eyes and stared up at him staring into space. His eyes were still bright, flickers of light drawing out their colour. I shifted under the weight of his arm and sat up. Still Duo didn't look at me. I brought my left leg over his body and straddled him. I was blocking his view of whatever he was viewing and he had to look at me now. Duo locked his eyes onto mine and I smiled, pressing my hands against his chest for balance.
"I'm already in an enchanted place."
He looked slightly taken aback when I replied, as though he hadn't been expecting an answer, but then smiled. I closed the few inches between us, my body touching his and my lips…my lips against his. I still adore that sensation. It feels new every time. And I still adore him.
He takes me to my enchanted place.
