Lily, James
~ The End of Year Dance
1 A/N this is the first in what I hope will be a series of short L/J + MWPP scenes. Please be kind, its my first published fic. Thankyou to my BETAs, Claire (aka Claire Thorpe and Cee), Alex, and Bee (aka Hermione B Granger and Bee, Princess of Weird)
2 'OK, James. WE know that you have to ask Lily to the dance, yeah?'
'Uhhh…'
'Never mind the "uhs". Just come in here'
Sirius, Remus and Peter led James into the empty charms classroom, and Remus pulled something from under the Invisibility Cloak it was a –
'Raggedy Ann doll?!' said James, bewildered (A/N: to anyone who doesn't know what this is, its an ugly doll from books, and I think a TV series called "Raggedy Ann and Fido").
'Well, she's got red hair, hasn't she?' said Remus, mischievously.
'Oh, God,' said James, as it dawned on him what they were up to.
'You,' said Sirius, propping the doll on a chair, 'Are going to practice on Lily here until we are satisfied with your performance.'
James sat down and rested his forehead in his hands. Why were his friends so embarrassing, why?
'Well,' said Remus. 'Go to it'
The three retreated to a corner, and settled back to watch the show, well pleased with themselves. James shot an incredulous glance at them. There was nothing else for it.
Putting his hands in his pockets, he sauntered as casually as possible up to the doll, who had a book open infront of her.
'Lily!' started James –
'No, no. You sound too eager. Be more cool'
Rolling his eyes at his critics, James cleared his throat and started again.
'Oh, hi, Lily. How are you?' he paused and listened to the doll's reply, while Padfoot, Moony and Wormtail sniggered in the background.
'How's you book going, is it a good read?'
'Get on with it!' interjected Sirius.
'OK!' said James, exasperated. He walked away a few paces, and approached the doll.
'Lily', she said in his deepest, most masculine voice 'Your eyes are like emeralds…' here he was cut off by the Marauder's fits of unrestrained laughter.
'Well, if you think you can do any better, you ask her out!', said James, gesturing at Raggedy Ann.
'Well, I will!' said Sirius, wiping away his tears of mirth.
He strode purposefully across the room, got down on one knee, and said,
'Lily, I have loved you passionately since the second year, and I would be greatly honoured if you would accompany me to the dance…'
'Why, Sirius! I am very flattered that you so dashingly offered to escort me to the dance, but I'm afraid that Mr Potter applied for my hand first.'
During this speech, the Marauders had frozen, and turned slowly to face the speaker, because it didn't belong to any of them – it belonged to Lily. Laughing, she said,
'Perhaps you should check the next time you use an empty classroom, that it really is empty…'
fin.
A/N: what do ya think? Did you like it? Any criticism (constructive kind) that you have, please review, or send them to me at miss_vee41@hotmail.com this would be very much appreciated.
