Disclaimer: I don't X-Men Evolution or the characters, no matter how hard I wish. Enrique Iglesias owns the song 'Hero' (song lyrics apply later on), nope he doesn't belong to me either, we girls can only dream he was ours *stares off into space dreamily*

A/N: This story just hit me whilst listening to 'Hero', I love that song. I just had to start writing even though I have biology work and a test tomorrow, oops oh well this couldn't wait.

BTW this will heat up soon, full of action and so on.

I Can Be Your Hero

By Cherry Drop

The cold bit into him. His hands clenched so tightly they drew blood. However oblivious to the cold and the pain, the shadowed figure continued to run. His feet pounded on the ground, he brushed passed the pedestrians on the street barely noticing their presence, but knowing full well of the sinister presence of another close behind him.

If he didn't escape now, he knew he would be captured, and death inevitable. At last a deserted alley came into view, the young mutant ran with his last ounce of strength to reach it. Once safely out of sight he used his mutant powers and left the street far behind. The item he had risked death to recover was in his safekeeping, but for how long…

Kurt bamfed to the mansion, to find half of it had been torn down. One half looked slightly battered whilst the other half lay in ruins. His first and only thought was of another mutant, Kitty.

His mind was a jumbled mess. Fear, anxiety, panic, these mixed feelings screamed out to him. The loudest of all was love, the gripping pain that he may have lost the one and only person he had ever loved.

He frantically ran through the mansion, bamfing into rooms. He was being careless and only avoided plummeting to his doom by a fraction of a second. But Kurt had always been careless and quick thinking, that was the way he was. Maybe if his team leader had been more like Kurt he would have survived, but he had hesitated once to often.

The mansion was empty, as empty as he felt right about that time. He had a lump in his throat, unable to stop the throbbing pain it caused him, he let the tears flow freely. They trickled down his furry cheek, and dripped from his chin.

"Kurt…Kurt, most of us are ok, nothing more than a few wounds. You must come to us, we are still in Bayville the empty house at the end of Rewst St", Xavier's voice rang out in Kurt's head, he sounded desperate.

Kurt was on his feet immediately, ready to take the short trip across Bayville. His hand brushed against something in his pocket, he shuddered and tried to force the ominous thoughts from his mind.

He shook his head violently, trying to cling to the memories when life was simple. When all he had to worry about was his unfinished homework and what he was going to eat for lunch.

I know this is short, I'm probably working the next chapter as you're reading this.

Please review, because I need reassurance, thanx.

Oh if you have time, please read my other story 'Anyone For Coffee' it's about Jean drinking way too much caffeine. I'd be eternally grateful (
