What Really Happened to Gandalf By Nathalie

Disclaimer: Although this story belongs to me; Gandalf and Balrog, as well as the rest of the Lord of the Rings world belongs to JRR Tolkien and family.

Author's note: I know this didn't really happen; I got the idea from my friend Sasha before I read the second LOTR book. Sorry its so short.

"Fly, you fools," Gandalf yelled as he plunged into the dark crevasse in the land of Moria. He was certain he was going to fall to his death. He fell for a long time, for a few minutes. He kept falling until he saw the bottom of the huge crevasse coming ever closer, with the Balrog sprawled upon the ground, unconscious. Gandalf closed his eyes, expecting a hard landing, but it never came. Instead he landed on top of the Balrog. He stood up, shook himself off, then jumped off of the Balrog, just in case it woke up. Balrog groaned, then opened his eyes. "How do I get out of here, Balrog?" Gandalf yelled. "I will take you out, under one condition. You beat me at chess," Balrog replied. Gandalf was surprised at the willingness of the Balrog to help him. He agreed to the condition. Balrog grabbed a chess set and started placing the pieces onto the board. "You go first, Gandalf the Grey." "Um.ok. What should I call you?" "Call me Elgor." "OK." Gandalf and Elgor began playing their game of chess. After about a half an hour, Elrog yelled out checkmate, ending the game. "What now that you have beaten me at chess?" Gandalf inquired. "We keep playing until you win, however long that may be." So Gandalf and Elgor continued to play another game of chess. And another. And another. Finally, on a day or night (you can't tell when you're in Moria) two months later, Gandalf yelled checkmate at his triumph of winning his first game against Elgor. "Elgor, as much as like staying here and playing chess, I must be going back to my world. After all, we did have a deal that you would take me out o f Moria once I beat you at chess." "That is correct. Since I am a Balrog of my word (like man of my word, only Balrog), I will take you to the outside world. Now hop onto my back and we can get going." So Elgor returned Gandalf the Grey to the outside world as Gandalf the White and they were both eternally happy.

OK, now go review!!!!!!
