Summary: His voice echoes through her, it shakes not only her body, but her mind and soul as well.
Echoes
`I love you' that's all she hears. `I love you' it echoes in her brain just as the click of her heels echo in the empty hospital corridor. `I love you' he says while she walks away.
`Did I do the right thing?' she asks herself. `Did I just walk away from the one thing that could change my life?' These questions nag at her until she can barely breathe. "No!" she whispers, "Don't do this to yourself. He's delusional... right?"
Sitting down in a chair placed against the wall she ponders what has been said. In her own little world, cut off from everything else, she wonders `He seemed so sincere. His words were filled with a passion I had never heard in his voice before. And his eyes, those hazel eyes of his stared into me begging for a response. But I couldn't, I couldn't just let my guard down like that. I won't.' She feels a lump forming in the back of her throat and her eyes begin to water. She brushes this off and continues the journey to her car.
She comes home to an empty apartment and spends the night alone like she does all others. This is because she isn't strong enough to tell the truth, not just to him but also to herself. Loneliness fills her heart because she couldn't say those four words earlier that evening, those four little words that could have changed everything. `I love you, too' it was that simple, but she just isn't strong enough. Maybe one day she will be, but not today.
