Before the Ball

Mars-

The wind lifted her hair off the back of her neck. She stared up at the sky. It was
covered with rain clouds that had now been dyed purple by the night. the clouds were so
thick she couldn't see the moon, but she knew it was there. the streets of red cobble
stone were still wet with the days rain. She loved walking the streets when no one else
was around, they were all eating or reading or doing something as a family. She would to
but this was her only time to be alone. Her eyes lifted again to the sky, the clouds were
moving, they wouldn't be there when the sun rose. She smiled at this thought, she like
going out into the sun light. It might have been a little chilly this time of year, she didn't
mind though, she loved it. She turned around looking down the street, the red fire lights
were now coming on.
"Is it that late?" She said to herself, the fire light only came on when there was no trace
of the sun left.
"Rei." A soft, gentle, female voice said. The little black haired girl turned around to
face the voice. A tall slender girl of about eighteen stood on the street. She had long
black hair, below her knees, with red highlights, she had dark ruby red eyes that had a
mature softness to them.
"You know it's almost time to go to the moon."
"Yeah but... I wanted to see the winter come in."
"You know we're too far south for the snow to reach us."
"I know, but it might." The little violet eyed girl said hopefully with a smile
"Okay." the older girl said patently, "But now it's time to get ready for the ball." And they
started walking to the palace.
"I know, do you think that they'll like me?"
"Who?"
"The other princess."
"I know they will little sister."
"Do you think I'll like them?" This stopped the older girl, she looked down at her sister
and came down to her level.
"Rei," she began in a calm and gentle voice, "If they are kind and loving and looking
forward to meeting you as you are them, then you will love them as they are your own
sisters."
"I believe you." The little girl said with her eyes shinning and the biggest smile on her
face. She started walking back to the palace as the older girl looked at her, still knelling
on the ground.
"What a sister I have." She said as she stood up and walked to the girl, who took her
hand as soon as she was beside her.
"So, do you want to wear the red dress with the ribbons and the ruby in the collar?"
"Do you think it will be appropriate?"
"I think it would be beautiful." She looked down into her sisters violet eyes and smiled.
"I'm sure I'll love them like sisters."
