I Should Tell You

Disclaimer: And the Irvine centered fics begin... don't ask me why or how. I think its cause I'm preparing for part three of my Life Goes On arc. I don't own FF8 or Irvine. The idea of this song came from "I Should Tell You" from the musical Rent.
BTW: Life Goes On arc consists of: Things Change, Blue, Never is a Promise (coming soon), and The Time Between Meeting and Finally Leaving (coming soon). Possibly a fifth novel that might be called Fade. Course now I am seriously blocked at the futures of Never is a Promise and The Time Between Meeting and Finally Leaving are really looking bleak :P.

"So Irvine, why did you call me here? I have a lot to do today..."

Selphie paced around the empty classroom. Usually it was bustling and filled with activity, but today it was quiet.

"This is important Sefie."

Irvine sat down on one of the desk tops and removed his hat.

"You've been pushing for a committment from me for a while now."

"Yeah, and you always seem to dodge it. So why address the issue now?"

Irvine smiled faintly.

"I've dodged it too many times. You're ready to abandon this."

"Abandon what? We never had anything really anything official."

"I had good reason you know. For not letting you close. For hiding behind my ladies man facade."

"Oh?"

"I should tell you, I'm a disaster area. And I've never been lucky with love. Everytime I'd get close to someone, I'd lose them. So I just started this. I figure its easier to be alone, and still loved by many women, then to be with one single person, and risk things falling apart."

Selphie walked and stood next to Irvine.

"So you thought that I would leave you?"

"I thought you'd end up getting hurt. And by now you know what my reputation is. I didn't want you getting a bad reputation because of me."

"I can take care of myself."

"I know. But I worry anyway. I love you Selphie. Maybe I always have. And I know what I'm like. I don't want to pull you down."

"You never would be able to pull me down unless I wanted to be pulled down."

Selphie smiled and touched his hand.

"For such a lone gunman you worry a lot. A little oversensitive."

"You wound me fair maiden." Irvine smiled. "So, I'm allowed a few faults, right?"

"Only a few though."

"What happens if I have more than that?"

Selphie faked deep thought.

"We'll see."

"Listen, this is already taking longer than I thought it would."

"And what exactly is this?"

"A romantic admission of love? Me bearing my soul?"

Irvine fell to his knees in front of her, a mischievious sparkle in his eyes.

"Uh huh. Does this mean I need to do some soul bearing too?"

"Well it would make me more comfortable."

"In that case... nah."

Selphie smiled and skipped out of the room.

"Excuse me? Nah? After I reveal my deepest thoughts to you? My heart and my soul?" He hung his head melodramatically.

"Yup! You'll have to find things out by yourself!"

"We'll see about that!"

Irvine chased Selphie out of the room and down the hall.

"Come on! I have to film the Victory Banquet! So stop!" Selphie's cries could be heard down the hall.

"No! Reveal secrets or I swear I'll flirt at this banquet!"

"No!"

"Well, then I guess one more night of flirting can't hurt!"
