Lizzie Is Born

It was the afternoon of January 29, 1986, and Sam and Jo McGuire thought they were supposed to have their first baby about now. They were in the hospital awaiting word on its condition. They had presumed that his or her due date was today, but now they were uncertain.

"Is it okay, doctor? Mrs. McGuire asked Dr. Tricia O'Brien.

"It wasn't due today like you thought, Jo," Dr. O'Brien said. "It is actually due in the middle of February of this year."

"So when should we come back?" Mr. McGuire asked.

"Unless you feel you need to come back in an emergency sooner, I would say come back on February 12."

"Okay, thank you, doctor," Mr. McGuire said.

"Thank you, doc," Mr. McGuire said. Then they left.

In the car, they had a parent talk.

"I don't get it," Mrs. McGuire said. "When we first checked with Dr. O'Brien, she said it was due around now."

"Well, no one is right all the time, you know," Mr. McGuire said.

"True, but I thought doctors were always right on something like this."

"No, not all the time."

"I wonder what the others will think."

"They'll live up to the facts."

They returned to their home where Mrs. McGuire's mother was.

"Am I a grandma yet?" she asked.

"Not yet. The doctor said in the middle of February," her daughter replied.

"So we still have time for shopping for clothes, and toys and other stuff," his wife said.

"Well, you have bought a lot of clothes already, so why bother?" Mrs. McGuire's mother asked.

"Well, we still don't know whether or not it will be a boy or girl, and we want to buy an even amount of clothes for either side. So far, we've mostly bought just boy things."

The doorbell rang and Mrs. McGuire went to answer it. It was Mr. and Mrs. Sanchez. They had their 2-month-old daughter Miranda with them. They had been told that the baby would arrive earlier.

"Where is it?" asked Mrs. Sanchez.

Mrs. McGuire patted her stomach. "It won't come until early next month."

Well, everyone was patient until the early hours of February 8. Mr. and Mrs. McGuire were back in the hospital, the baby just on the verge of being born.

"Okay, push," instructed Dr. O'Brien. Mrs. McGuire was in pain, but also excited and couldn't wait to see her first child.

Mr. McGuire and Dr. O'Brien were on the other side of his wife. The baby's head could be seen. Mrs. McGuire groaned and grimaced in extreme pain.

"Okay, let's get it out," Dr. O'Brien said, as she went over to the baby's head and proceeded to do her job.

A half-minute later, at 6:04 A.M., Mrs. McGuire lay on the bed with her new daughter in her arms.

"Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. McGuire on the arrival of your new daughter," Dr. O'Brien said with a smile.

"Thank you very much," they said together.

"Let's call her Elizabeth," Mr. McGuire suggested. "Elizabeth Anne McGuire."

"I like it a lot," his wife responded. "And when we're playing, we'll call her Lizzie."

A few minutes later, Dr. O'Brien came in with her birth certificate, and put a sign on the bed where Lizzie lay that said "Name: Elizabeth Anne McGuire. DOB: 2/8/86. Sex: Female."

Later on, the relatives came in and took a look at Lizzie for the first time.

To sum it all up, Lizzie McGuire was born on February 8, 1986 at 6:04 A.M. in Los Angeles, California to Sam and Jo McGuire.

A/N: This might have been short, but for now, it's the best I can do. In terms of my story, today is Lizzie's 16^th birthday.
