Lily and Petunia

Author's Note: Note on Lily's voices-The words and sentences italicized are Lily's thoughts (i.e. the "voices in her head") Thanks! Enjoy...

Only another week. Only another week. That's right, dear, just keep repeating it...

"LILY!"

Uh-oh.

"Lily! If this disgusting rat comes into my room one more time I'll...I'll..."

Keep calm...remember, you only have to deal with her for one more week...just stay cool...

Lily summoned the sweetest voice she could possibly muster at the present time and called down the hall, "I'm sorry Petunia, I'll be right there."

She slowly gathered herself up, and started reluctantly down the hallway towards her sister's room. She forced herself to smile.

Think happy thoughts...

Quidditch...

Charms?

Oh-good one!

Chocolate Frogs...

"SEVEN!"

Lily winced as her sister's screeching voice met her ears.

"SEVEN times Lily! I won't put up with it! It's bad enough I have to share the same house with a freak, the last thing I need is your disgusting..."

You know, you'd think venom would be coming out of her mouth by now...Freak? I'll show her freak...suppose I could transfigure her into a frog? No, I think a snake would be better...Yeah, with nice long fangs...

"I'm sorry Petunia, dear (Lily winced, her sister was anything but dear), I don't know how he got in here," Lily held her hand out and looked at her sister innocently (or at least she hoped she looked innocent...).

"Here let me take him."

Petunia shot her sister a sour look and chucked Lily's poor mouse Darwin across the room. "Here! Like I would want that disgusting thing anyway!" She turned away muttering, "...disgusting freaks...load of old rubbish..."

Lily felt the heat start to rise up in her face, Lily, just calm down...ignore her...

"Run off and pickle some toad brains why don't you?"

...ignore her...

"I mean don't you have some rat stew going in the other room? You wouldn't want it to be overdone...that would be a tragedy..."

"You know what would be tragedy Petunia?"

Petunia's head whipped up and her beady eyes glared over at her sister. "Are you threatening me?"

She's just doing all this to get a rise out of you...I wouldn't be surprised if she came and got Darwin out of his cage herself...horrible beast...

"Of course not, Sis." Lily growled through gritted teeth. "Why would I do something like that?"

Exactly how many reasons do you want? 1)....

Petunia turned around and began muttering to herself in a way that only Petunia could do, tilting her head just enough so Lily could hear exactly what she was saying... "Because you are a disgusting freak...don't know what Mum and Dad see in her, honestly..."

Lily opened her mouth, ready to smash her sister with a crushing retort

...or maybe just smash her...

When their mother yelled from the kitchen, "Girls is there a problem up there?" Lily loved her mother, but honestly, sometimes she could be as clueless as anything. She never noticed how her daughters had grown so apart over the last few years.

When they were young `her babies' had been inseparable. They were known the neighbors as, `The Flower Girls'. But things had changed...they had changed...
