Story 12

Li frowned. It didn't make sense. How could he have fallen in love with ... well ... her? She was Sakura, (in case you didn't know that already), and she was just ... forbidden. Forbidden fruit that seemed so enticing. He wanted so much to go back to Japan ... back to her ... to see her again ... to tell her how much he loved her ... but he couldn't. He cursed.
He was a prisoner in his own home. That was what hurt him the most. After everything, well he couldn't delay going home any longer. And back at home; well ... no matter how much support his mother may have showed him, the rest of the Li family wasn't as happy.
"You lost to a girl?"
"She passed the final judgment and you didn't?"
"You have brought disgrace onto the Li clan."
"She beat you."
"It's your fault that the Li family can no longer show their face."
"Why aren't you Clow Master?"
"You dared to show your face here?"
After the Elders had put a stop to the berating, though their hearts weren't in it, it was still unbearable. Why? Because of the silence. Because he missed Sakura. Because he wanted to be near her again. Because he wanted to smell the fresh smell of cherry blossoms in her hair. Because he wanted to see her golden brown hair. Because he wanted to see her emerald green eyes. Because he loved her.
After weeks of excluding himself from his family, from avoiding the fawning girls, he realized that he loved Sakura. It took a while. It took a lot of seclusion. But after spending day after day alone in his room, he had finally figured out why he was sad. And he was happy, for all he had to do was go back to Japan. Not that simple.
His family had figured it out long before he did, something that irked him, but ignoring his mother's protests, they forbade him to leave his household without someone to accompany him like a child. He was watched at all times. They even forcibly engaged him to Meilin. Meilin. She always did such sickeningly sweet things, and though he knew she meant well, he just didn't like her. And she ... Meilin was just a bit stubborn. She wouldn't believe that he didn't like her. And that dismayed him.
She had given him a package and a letter today. He looked at them, disgusted. He had been forced to accept them, just as he was forced to stay here. He looked down at the garden. Cherry trees. Cherry blossoms gently floated down. It all came back to Sakura, no matter what he thought.
Li put his head between his arms and cried. Cried! He hadn't cried since ... since forever. He wanted to be near Sakura again ... to see her ... to tell her how much he missed her ... but he wasn't even allowed to write a letter.
Reluctantly, Li did the only thing he could. He reached down and opened the letter from Meilin, wincing, and wishing it was from Sakura.
Li:
I think it would be wise for you to actually open this present for once. Consider it an early birthday present.
Meilin.
Sighing, he opened the small package, revealing ... a plane ticket to Japan, set for that night, at eight. And a note.
Li:
If you pack in your room, no one will notice. The "changing of the guards" occurs at six-thirty. Watch carefully, choose your time right, put up something, and slip out at the right time. If you time it right, you'll make it to Japan. Good luck with
Sakura.
Meilin.
P.S. Li? I do love you; but you have to know when to let go. I hope you won't forget me. Bye.
Li smiled for the first time in days. He was going to see his Sakura again.
