I don't own Eva
Echoes of Angels
"I still can't believe she's really gone," Shinji muttered quietly. He stared up at the plain ceiling above his bed, his SDAT player in one hand, however it was not turned on.
The funeral had been very nice. Everyone had been there, even Touji and Kensuke. They had even managed to say a few nice things about her as well. Shinji rose from his bed and slipped out the door. He walked down the hallway to her room and went inside.
Her presence was still strong there. A few of her clothes were strewn about the room, along with the other various knick knacks and clutter one might expect to find in a girls room. Glancing towards the small desk he saw last weeks homework laid out on its surface, as if waiting for her to return and finish it.
He walked over to the desk and gently touched the pen that lay atop the papers with the tips of his fingers. He could almost imagine her smile, as rare as it was. The glimmer in her eye whenever he knew she was about to tease him.
Tears sprang to his eyes, he spun and stumbled out the door, suddenly overcome with grief. "I can' stay here anymore," he mumbled. Going to his room he grabbed an overnight bag and began to randomly shove clothes into it. He filled the bag with anything and everything he could take that he deemed necessary before turning to leave the apartment.
As his hand touched the front door he was stopped by a quiet voice. "Shinji?" Misato asked from the kitchen table. "Where are you going?"
"I don't know Misato. But I can't stay here anymore."
"Why?"
"There was a moments silence before he spoke. "She was like an angel you know. When she let her guard down she was so beautiful, and so pure. There are too many memories here, too many echoes of her."
"I understand Shinji."
"I'll see you around Misato," and the door hissed shut behind him.
Misato was left alone in the silent apartment. "Good bye Shinji, bye, Asuka." for the first time since the Second Childs death, she wept.
End.
Authors Notes: ok I know it's short I know it's a tiny bit sad. But I think it's pretty good considering I put it together in about ten minutes. I MAY or may not go into another chapter concerning how Shinji handles her loss. Maybe an explanation into how she died. All depends on the reviews. You guys want me to continue it or leave it as a one shot deal?
