Rurouni: Prologue

By Emeral Fire

We see a man with red hair walking down an alley with an umbrella while it rains. The alley is empty save him, when all of a sudden chains fly from behind the red-haired man seemingly aimed for him. At the last moment, the red-haired man sidesteps while turning in the directions of the chains throwing away his umbrella to reveal a handsome, if slightly feminine, face.

A ninja, apparently the one who threw the chains, uses the momentum of the chains to catapult through the air toward the red-haired man with twin daggers. The mysterious red-haired man unsheathes a katana from his side and, using the man's own momentum against him, splits him in half.

"Rest in peace my friend." Himura Kenshin stated with a soft voice before walking out of the alley.

=== Elsewhere ===

Kenshin is walking through the market when he hears a noise that does not fit the surroundings.

Weaving through the crowed, he homes in on the noise and to his surprise, finds a crying child that looks around six or seven.

"Why are you crying little one?" Kenshin asked the sniffling boy.

Suddenly the crying stops as the boy jumps to his feet facing him in a kung-fu stance.

"I wasn't crying! Men don't cry," the boy practically yelled.

"If you say so little one."

Looking at the boy you can see a lean figure, blue eyes with a hint of gray, jet black hair done up in a short pigtail, and he was wearing a gi. The boy relaxes out of his stance seeing he didn't have to prove his point.

"Were are your parents little one?"

"Poppa's dead."

"I'm sorry to hear that. What of your mother?" Kenshin asked with a little sympathy. He might be an assassin but he could still feel pity for a young child.

"I don't know where momma is."

` Pity that one so young should lose his family. The slave traders will probably find him... reminds me of myself. I wonder...' "Young one what is your name?"

"Ranma Saotome."

"Well Ranma, would you like to live with me until we can find some of your relatives who can take you in?"
