~In Defense of Band Geeks~
I've been a band geek for a year and a half now, and I do not regret it in the slightest way. Why? That's a good question.
Why do I suffer through the stifling late-summer football games and the chilly late-autumn ones? Why do I trudge my way through christmas parades in the freezing cold? Why do I bother putting numerous bobby pins in my short-but-not-short-enough hair so that I can fit it under my hat? Why do I bother taking off my three neclaces, six bracelets, and five rings so my jewelery won't look conspicuous in the uniformed crowd?
The answer is simple. The band is my family. Everyone there accepted me right from the start and I've made more friends than a shy and soft-spoken person like me could have hoped for freshman year. Now, as a sophomore, I have enough friends (in band at least) to even be considered popular! It's amazing how my experience in band has helped me to be more outgoing and social.
But isn't it hard to practice your drill over and over and to preform no matter what the weather is? Yes. Yes it is, and that's what I love about it. I love the feeling you get before, during, and after a really good half-time show. I love finishing a parade and feeling proud that I've actually done it. I love yelling my vocals at the top of my lungs and having eighty other people doing it with me.
People outside of band laugh at us. They think we're crazy, but we're okay with that. We're proud of who we are.
WE ARE BAND GEEKS!!!!!!!
