Sydney Bristow sat on a box in the warehouse that served as a meeting place to her and Michael Vaughn. He was unusually late. She sat there starring at a stain on the concrete floor. The stain was a normal stain, no different then one anywhere else in the world but for some reason this single stain promoted Sydney's thoughts. Vaughn walked into the building, his shoes making a sound louder then normal but Sydney didn't notice she was wrapped up in thought.
"Sydney?" Vaughn questioned after watching her for a second, she looked almost like a child to him her eyes intent on a spot on the floor, sitting on a box that wouldn't let her feet reach the floor and her legs ever so slightly waving back in forth- heels clicking against the box's hard surface. "Sydney?" Vaughn asked again.
"Oh, sorry, yeah?" Sydney said, her tone suggesting she had just woken up from an extremely long nap.
"Are you okay Sydney?"
"Yeah, I was just thinking." She said standing up and facing Vaughn.
"Quarter for your thoughts?"
"I thought the expression was `Penny for your thoughts'?"
"You were concentrating so hard I figured they must be worth more then a penny" Vaughn said.
"I was thinking that I'm going to hell." She finished as she sat back down on the box. Vaughn sat down on the box next to her, clasping his hands together on his knees.
"I believe, that heaven and hell are of our own making, there not in the after life but there here."
"What's yours Vaughn?" Sydney asked.
"I shouldn't tell you really, it's against protocol." Vaughn frowned.
"Please, tell me. Pretend we're two normal people, who met at a... karaoke bar." Sydney said in a silly yet serious tone.
"What song did you sing?" Vaughn asked after a second.
"I didn't sing, you did. You were drunk and sang Take My Breathe Away by Berlin."
"Okay." Vaughn agreed. Then they lapsed into a silence.
"Aren't you going to tell me?" Sydney asked.
"I will...I'm just trying to get up some courage."
"You have tons of courage, you sang take my Breathe Away at a Karaoke bar."
"I was drunk."
"Do you need me to get you some beer?"
"No, I'll tell you." Vaughn said and took a deep breath. "My hell would be losing you" Sydney smiled slightly and looked at him, he was now studying the same stain she had been studying before he had came.
"Vaughn, what's your heaven?"
"My heaven would be this all being over, and being able to go to that King's game with you."
"I think our heavens are the same."
"Then what's your Hell?"
"I'm living my hell Vaughn...I'm trapped working for horrible people, and those same horrible people are keeping me from having a relationship I really, really, want to have and my mother- the woman who I thought was the only normal element of my life killed your father." A tear ran down Sydney's cheek. Vaughn put his arm around her shoulder and kissed Sydney's forehead.
"This will all get better Sydney." He stated simply.
"Oh yeah, How?" Sydney sobbed.
"We'll beat SD-6, we'll finish them, and then we'll go to that King's game. We won't give up ever." Sydney's crying subsided.
"Vaughn, Thank you."
"No problem, just promise me when we go to that hockey game I can buy you a King's jersey." Sydney laughed.
"That would be great Michael." She said giving Vaughn a smile that made his heart skip a beat.
"Now let's get to your counter mission."
The End
