X-Mercs: Interlude: Interweaving Threads
Rating: PG-13 to be safe
Author's Note: Sorry for the long wait...but RL's a bitch and author's block even more so. This should tide some over until I can get back to full-time work on this arc (I've got several other one-shots going). Updates to this arc will be sporadic at best; don't hold your breath for Book Three soon.
"Oh damn." Avalanche.
The rest opened their eyes and gritted their teeth and instantly shared Dominic's incredulity.
Arkanon and Shadow's training was intense and hurtful. After months, this supposedly hard test didn't seem too bad. Not after the first fifty lashes after they failed the first test. But this...this defied belief.
Avalanche's jaw dropped. "You're dead!" he accused.
Destiny-Irene Adler-gave him a pained smile from where her hands were bound behind her back, being prodded into their room by Shadow. "Yes, I was."

"You have the X-Men and their mutant allies secure?"
"Yes, my Lord," replied Shadow dutifully.
Arkanon grinned. A rare occurrence. "Excellent."

The X-Men drifted in dreams, each in their own world.
Assembled were the X-Men (Comprised of Jean, Betsy, Warren, Hank, Ororo, Logan, Piotr, and Kurt); free-floaters Brian and Meggan Braddock, Illyana, Rachel, Amanda Sefton and Terry Cassidy; Wisdom and X-Force; and Banshee, the White Queen and Generation X.
Waiting, albeit unconsciously, for whatever Arkanon had planned for them.
