Night Time
The sun sets casting a gloomy
shadow over the earth,
I watch the sun slowly
disappear behind the mountain,
The stars soft light starts to poke
through the dark canopy of sky,
A crystal clearness starts to
settle as the darkness rolls in,
Tonight was just like all those
other unsure nights I spend waiting
for the last rays of day to fade and be
swallowed up by the darkness of night,
Memories start to fill my heart
as I remember a time when the
night did not seem so ominous
and unwelcoming as it does now,
I become lost in my mind as my thoughts
turn to a time when happiness refused to
leave my side and become as much
a part of me as was my shadow,
Now I am alone every night
as I gaze up in to the night sky
and let the immensity of space wrap
itself around me and embrace me
I used to have someone by my side
each day but time denied me
my one true happiness
and decided to do as it pleased with me,
But each day a small light, a small ray of
hope continues to burn in me and helps
me make myself believe that I will have
happiness as my companion again someday,
Until time agrees to take a different course
and make my life joyful once again,
the stars will burn ever bright and the night
will continue to sing its lonesome lullaby.
