Come What May:
Wolfwood sat on the banister of the marble balcony, taking a slow drag on the cigarette that seemed to constantly be in his mouth, as he stared at the clear night sky, thinking, "How did this happen?"
*Never knew I could feel like this. Like I've never seen the sky before.*
It had started out as just an innocent kiss… innocent… borne of a little too much alcohol… how had it changed like that?
*Want to vanish inside your kiss. Every day, I love you more and more.*
He flicked his cigarette butt into the sand below him, and smiled at the memories of her, "She always could do everything I wanted to do, so easily… How do you do it? How do you keep up that façade? How have you managed to make me want to take care of you?"
*Listen to my heart, can't you hear it sing? Telling me to give you everything.*
He sighed, as he glanced into the room where she still lay sleeping, then he glanced out to the sand, where Vash had snuck to, hoping no one would notice his absence, "Foolish clown… with Meryl, how can he think she won't notice… You know something's coming Vash… And I'm with you… but what will become of her?"
*Seasons may change, winter to spring… But I love you… until the end of time.*
Wolfwood turned back into the room, and sat next to his love's sleeping form, gently, brushing a strand of hair out of her relaxed face, thinking, "I won't let them hurt you… Milly…"
*Come what may. Come what may. I will love you, until my dying day.*
Milly's light blue eyes opened, sleepily, as she smiled up at the priest… Her priest… Her Wolfwood… God, how she loved the sound of that. She stroked his cheek, and leaned up to kiss him, gently, finally feeling right in the world…
*Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place. Suddenly it moves with such a perfect grace.*
Wolfwood reveled in the touch of her lips, knowing that he had found destiny. This was what his whole life had led up to… her.
*Suddenly my life doesn't seem such waste. It all revolves around you.*
Against popular belief, Milly knew that this journey wouldn't be easy. It never had been. But she knew they could make it through… especially now that they had each other.
*And there's no mountain too high. No river too wide. Sing out this song and I'll be there by your side.*
The distant roll of thunder just strengthened their resolve. They were going to make it now.
*Storm clouds may gather and stars may collide…*
Wolfwood smiled, as Milly snuggled into his warm embrace and he stroked her back. He bent down and lightly kissed her cheek, whispering, "I don't know how, but…I love you, Milly Thompson…till my dying day…"
She smiled back, kissing his neck softly, and whispered back, "And I love you, Nicholas D. Wolfwood…Come what may…"
