If you observe the world, you will come to realise that there will always be more to learn. The way to become aware of the invisible is achieved in numerous ways. One being to look for beauty in the most simplistic of situations. One who is able to cultivate wondrousness will discover how exquisitely conceived our world is.
Appreciation of the simple things – the delicate patterns on a butterfly, the gentle twinkling of the stars, and the magnificent disarray of papers spread across your desk. Express gratitude. You will be all that much better for it. So, what then, is there to examine here? I don't have a desk; there aren't any butterflies. If I turn my head I can observe her more closely without her knowing what I'm doing.
Marvelling at the intricacy of her hand as it glides over the control panels, performing multiple tasks all at once without breaking concentration. Her sapphire eyes reflecting the stars from the field ahead, making them shimmer and sparkle. Isn't it amazing how I can look into her eyes and almost feel as if I'm watching her soul? Her hair falls in a dark curtain, framing her face, making her features seem softer. My God, her hair. I'm sure she knows how much I love her hair. The look, the feel, the smell, everything. My eyes move down her frame, taking in every miniscule detail. Underlying strength, complexity, and intense beauty both inside and out. And I'm thankful, exceedingly thankful that this woman is in my life, sharing the journey with me. That warm glow I was promised spreads through me, warming the innermost part of my body.
I walk over to her slowly, not wanting to alarm her even though I'm positive she knows I've been here watching her. She looks up as I finish my approach, and I am greeted with the most radiant smile I've ever laid eyes upon.
"Thank you," I speak quietly.
I see her eyebrow quirk in askance but do not respond; I'm already too lost in my thoughts to do anything but turn and head back into the shadows from which I came.
Simple really.
When was the last time I experienced awe? Approximately a microt ago.
The secrets of your soul will be found – look for beauty. So I did. And I found it – in Aeryn.
THE END.
Yes, it's short. I was actually in the middle of writing some more on my other fic (In Beauty May I Walk) when this little piece struck me. Feedback is lovingly read!
