Disclaimer: No, I do not own Pokèmon. The likelihood of me ever owning
Pokèmon is…well, it's not good. However, I did create the characters Karen
and Henry and other characters that will appear in later chapters and the
the plot is (I hope!) original. ^_^
"Karen, please take this more seriously!" Henry nearly shrieked as the old Jeep bounced along the pothole-abundant road.
Karen just giggled and clapped her hands with the rapture of having gotten away with something tremendous. "Why? This is our day off!" she grinned.
"A day off we aren't supposed to have," Henry reminded her grimly, his nervous grip on the steering wheel tightening, his black Rocket cap tilted sideways so that it nearly covered his eyes. "Shit...hate it when that happens...I can't see, goddamn it."
Karen shook her head and smoothed out her short black skirt. She flipped an auburn ponytail over her right shoulder. Her green eyes sparkled with the merriment of pulling one over on her superiors. "Lighten up, Henry!" she beamed.
Finally, the old Jeep slowly lurched to a stop, the breaks squealing. Karen kicked her door open, nearly busting in off, and jumped out. Then she slammed it such with a loud thud. Henry winced. "Don't do that! This car is damn old, you know!" Karen ignored him and happily pranced toward the mall. "C'mon," she said after awhile, taking him by the wrist.
Henry sighed. He knew he should never have agreed to a day off...
Karen finally succeeded in pulling her partner indoors. Though Henry never physically tried to escape, the incoherent sputters that escaped him sounded to Karen suspiciously like complaints.
Finally, he managed actual words through his annoyance. "Kar, we're still in our Rocket suits. People are staring!" he hissed.
It was true. People were staring. Karen couldn't care less.
"So?" she demanded. "They can't arrest us solely because of how we're dressed. And besides - they don't even know for sure we're Rockets! We could be anyone!"
Henry shook his head. "I don't know if..."
Before he could finish his sentence - if he had any intention of finishing it all - Karen stubbornly lead him toward the music store.
"We can go here first," she said cheerily. Then she giggled. "Besides, there's someone here I'm hoping to meet!"
