The New Jessie

Jessie Bannon woke up and jumped out of bed and brushed out her red hair.
Then Jessie decided it was time to change her look. She had been a redheaded-
green-eyed girl for a long time. (Not that she wanted to change the GIRL
part.) Not to mention that she had been wearing that horrendous pink-and-
lavender outfit for so long. (Jessie, unfortunately, didn't think this outfit
was bad, but she just wanted a change.)
Jessie noticed that it was seven o' clock AM. She was the only one up.
She quickly got dressed and went outside. As Jessie breathed in the fresh
morning air, she said to herself, *OK, Bannon, this is the new you.* Then
Jessie stepped on her hoverboard and was off to the mall.
Jonny Quest woke up at 7:35 AM. As soon as he got dressed, he went into
Hadji's room to check on him. Hadji was fast asleep. Jonny saw that his dad,
Dr. Benton Quest, and Jessie's father Race were asleep too. Then he went to
Jessie's room. The door was closed. *She's probably getting dressed*, Jonny
figured. Jessie was usually the first one up, so it made sense. "Hey, Jess!"
he called. "You getting dressed?"
No response.
"Jessie?" Jonny repeated. Still no response. Jonny pushed open the door
to Jessie's room and looked around. The bed was neatly made. No Jessie. Jonny
sighed. *What is she up to NOW?* he wondered.
Two hours later, Jonny, Hadji, Benton, and Race were gathered in the
living room of their home. "What's going on?" Race inquired.
"Obviously, Jessie's not here," Jonny told them.
"Maybe she went out shopping," Benton suggested.
"Shopping doesn't take nearly three hours, Dad," Jonny said. "I mean, I
don't even know how long she's been gone. She could have snuck out in the
middle of the night!"
Suddenly, Jessie walked in. Well, it looked like Jessie, anyway. Jonny
couldn't be quite sure.
First of all, Jessie had cut her long, red hair up to her shoulders and
dyed it black with purple streaks on either side of her head. She had red
contact lenses in, which kind of glowed so everyone could see them. Jessie had
a black leather jacket on over a skinny brown tank top that clearly showed her
belly button. Her pierced belly button. Then there were the shaggy denim jeans
and the black cowboy boots. And besides having her belly button pierced, she
also had each of her ears triple-pierced and also her nose and eyebrows had
gold hoop earrings.
Hadji gasped. "What have you done, my friend?"
Jessie wagged her finger at Hadji and snapped her neon pink gum. "We do
NOT talk like that to the new Jessie."
"Oh, God," said Race, and fainted.
