A very tired Maxwell Sheffiled came home from the theater, not noticind a
sleeping Fran on the couch, went straight to his office. He noticed
something different on his desk. There was a note in an evelope, scribbled
in Miss Fine's left hand writing. He opened it and it read:
Dear Mr. Sheffield
I am sorry to be leaving you like this, but your brother proposed, and I accepted. I am metting him on a boat, and sailing back to England with him. Please tell the children that I love them, and will miss them deeply. Tell them that I will visit them as often as possible. As for you, Goodbye. I will love you forever, but I could not wait forever. Nigel and I will visit after our honeymoon.

As Maxwell read this, tears came to his eyes. For so long he had come loved this woman, and now, because of his stupidity, and pride, she was gone. Now she will soon be his sister- in-law. He wandered into the living room, crying, and repeating the note over and over. But the more he thought about it, the sadder he became. 'How does one control himself when he's lost the secound love of his life?' He wondered. But wait a minute! Could it be? It is! There sleeping peacefully on the couch was Miss Fine! Was it a dream? or was ir a sign? No. it was real. She had almost left him. A wave of releaf, and happiness washed over him.
MAXWELL
Miss Fine!
He ran over and kissed her. When they broke apart...
FRAN
Uh, Mr. Sheffield..What was that for?...Hey, what do yo have in your hand?
MAXWELL
Oh, Miss Fine, your note. I am just so relaved that your still here.
FRAN (sobbing)
Oh, Mr. Sheffield, I'm so sorry, I should have said no to Nigel in the fist place. But I just wanted someone to love me, and someone who I could love back. Then I realized that I love yo.. your kids too much, and I couldn't live knowing that I hurt them like I would have.
Maxwell was too realved to be angrey. He knelt down, hugged, and kissed her, ever so passionatly. Fran beathed a sigh of releaf.
MAXWELL
Why exactly did you come back?
FRAN
I missed the boat, and hurt my ankle.
MAXWELL
Fran, I love you!
FRAN
Oh Mr. Sheffield you can yell at me all you want but, wha'd ya say?
MAXWELL
Oh my God, I said it! Fran I love you!
FRAN
Oh, Maxwell, I love you so much, I'll never leave you again
MAXWELL
Oh God Fran, I love you with all my heart, and soul, and I am so sorry it had to come to this. I never really realized I love and need you, until I almost lost you.
Maxwell sat down on the couch, and they kissed for what seemed to be hours (or ten minutes). Then they fell asleep on the couch, happy and content at last. It just felt so right to be together.
