Nanaki sat on the highest peak overlooking Cosmo Canyon as the moon sunk
beyond the horizon and the world awoke to a new day. His gaze swept across
the canyon, over the flickering Cosmo Candle flame, and through the pain
and sadness, he couldn't help but feel proud. What Bugenhagen had shown him
was painful, it was heart-wrenching and destroyed everything he had
believed in for the best part of his life so far. But it had given him
hope. And above all it had given him a father. Seeing the stone statue that
still stood after all these years showering its influence upon any would be
attackers had put the strength of the stone itself into Nanaki's heart, and
he knew as Bugenhagen did that at the moment his eyes fell upon it, he had
grown up. He wasn't a child anymore, even though many would still see him
as one, but it didn't matter because he knew himself. He also knew that he
must follow in the footsteps of his mother and father and become a great
warrior. He had fulfilled his promise to the people of Cosmo canyon by
protecting them for so long, but if he wanted to continue then he would
have to leave. He'd still be protecting them, because if these people
weren't stopped, there'd be no-one left for him to even protect.
His eyes drifted and landed once more upon the Cosmo Candle, and Nanaki noticed that the group around it was thinning… preparing to leave! He couldn't let them! Not after they'd rescued him from that horrible Hojo. He knew his duty to the village and his duty to those who had treated him with respect and care. He looked down at his father's pin before letting out a loud howl. I won't let you down mother, father, he thought, and set off down the rocky path to find his friends, his destiny and the rest of the world.
