"Dawnie, I have to!"
"No!"
"Listen to me, please. There's not a lot of time. Listen." Buffy pleaded with her little sister
"Dawn, listen to me. Listen. I love you. I will always love you. But this is the work that I have to do."
The sun started rising behind her, showing the portal growing larger and larger.
"Tell Giles ... tell Giles I figured it out. And, and I'm okay. And give my love to my friends. You have to take care of them now. You have to take care of each other. You have to be strong. Dawn, the hardest thing in this world ... is to live in it. Be brave. Live.
For me."
Buffy ran and jumped, swan-dive style, into the portal. There was a few moments of agony, and then nothing.
Buffy sat up, gasping for air. She looked at her surroundings. It looked like she was in a..hospital? She was sitting straight up in a hospital bed.
"This is very weird." Her mother walked in at that moment.
"Oh honey! You're awake!"
"When was I asleep?" Joyce hugged Buffy.
"What's going on? Oh, and last time I checked, you were all dead and buried."
"Honey, you don't remember anything, do you?" Her mother asked, totally ignoring the 'you should be dead' remark. "There was a car accident. One of your friends was driving you to school. The car was hit. You've been in a coma for. God, it's been at least six years. It happened right after your 15th birthday."
"Where are we?" Buffy asked
"LA Emergency. Where else?"
"Sunnydale. Why aren't we at Sunnydale Hospital?"
"Where's that?" Joyce asked, more than a bit confused.
"Where we live! Look!" Buffy took a map of Southern California form her mother's purse. "Right there.hey! Where'd my favorite hellmouth go? What's going on?" For the first time, Buffy took a look at the mirror opposite her.
Tentatively, she pushed the limp blonde hair away from her neck. There was no scar. Where Angel had bit her, there was nothing.
"It was all a dream."
