A/N: I do not own Buffy or any of its characters!!!

Summary: This is explaining why Spike and Dawn always/usually got along and why Dawn was one of the first humans he's liked in a while. Season 2, when Spike came to Buffy's house to devise a plan to get rid of Angelus. This is one of those memories that the monks put in.

1 LIL BIT

After Buffy dusted the one vamp Spike followed her in to the Summer's house while Buffy was ushering her mom in. Admiring the Summer's household and decorations he followed Buffy to the living room and sat down at the nearest chair.

"So what are we doing about Angel?" Buffy asked desperately.

"Well you see pet, there's this thing, you're the slayer… get the hint?" Spike replied using his hands to demonstrate the action/

"How do I kill Angel?" Buffy said putting her hands on her hips, she was getting annoyed.

Suddenly Dawn popped up from around the corner of the wall where she had been eavesdropping. "You're gonna kill Angel? Why Buffy? I know he is this freak so has suddenly become weirder and scarier, but come on kill him? Alright I will be quiet now, but it's true, Angel is an idiot," Dawn said, but became quiet after a look from Buffy and settled for fiddling with her fingers.

Spike was sitting in his chair trying not to laugh at what the girl was saying, he agreed with her. Spike took a quick look at the girl; she was about eleven with dark brown hair to her shoulders and enquiring grey- blue eyes. She will be a real heartbreaker when her time comes, just like-- -Spike thought.

"Yes Dawn, sacred duty. Angel is a vampire, I kill vampires."

"Angel is a vampire? This makes things more clear. So this means that he is dead, was he that weird when he was alive?" Dawn paused for a second then switched her gaze to the peroxided man in the chair, "So who are you? Are you in on this kill Angel thing?"

Spike replied, "I'm Spike, a vampire but am helping to get rid of the Poof, he's gone all evil." Still admiring this girl he knew he could get along with, and a human at that!

"You mean he wasn't evil before?" Dawn exclaimed.

"Dawn!" Joyce said for the first time, "We have a guest, well a guest in a way, I think I'll go into the kitchen," Joyce left the room muttering things to herself.

Spike got up and gave Dawn a pat on the back, "You're not bad for someone who is alive. I like you, and the fact that you don't like Angel makes me like you even more."

"How can someone like him, well with the exception of Buffy, but she never had good taste--"

"Dawn go upstairs, if you see Angel avoid him," Buffy said as she opened the front door to exit with Spike.

Dawn crawled up to the stairs and sat down. "Duh! So if I see him I get to poke him with a stick right?"

"Goodnight, Dawn," Buffy said in a dangerous tone as she went out the door.

"You won't try to kill me like in the movies, will you Spike?" Dawn asked nervously to the vamp, dropping her gaze.

Spike though for a moment then looked up at her. So much like my sister Dorothy before she died, same age too. Spike then spoke "No Lil Bit, there is something about you I like, you remind me of some one I loved very much when I was alive." And with the turn of his jacket he closed the door leaving a bewildered Dawn sitting on the stairs looking blankly at the door. For the first time in years, Spike had strong human feelings running through him.
