The Scar

I look into the water,
and all I see is you.
Your face a smiling wonder,
but I know the truth.

You wear a mask, to hide a scar,
of deep and devistating pain.
I know your secret, I know your past,
and I feel it like the rain.

As I walk beyond your room,
I pause a moment to remember,
just why it was you told to me.
of that tragic day in September.

You opened to me your deepest wound,
by taking off your face,
and showed to me the horror,
of your past-life case.

"I have loved once,"
you said without ease,
"but I was stabbed through the heart,
and even now it still bleeds.

"My best friend stole my love away,
and burned rage into my heart.
All I could see was getting my revenge,
it was tearing me apart.

"An evil grew inside of me,
and I attacked him with burning fists.
He fell from a cliff, but I grabbed his hand,
and stopped him from falling into the watery mists.

"I felt him slipping away,
then he came up at me with his left,
slashing my eye with a knife,
and then falling to his death.

"That same day, a flood rolled in.
and washed away my town.
Friends, family, and my love,
there, they all were drowned."

I remember now why you told me that.
So I can send along your story,
and I will, at least until,
you return from your journey.

As I look up at the sky,
I will always remember your smile,
Be well, my good friend,
I shall see you in a while.
