As Frodo drew towards Bags End, he came across a herd of angry voices. Frodo, curious, crept in silence up to the door of his hobbit-hole, he now recognised the voices. They were Gandalf and his cousin, Bilbo. The were arguing. Arguing over what? Frodo thought silently. Frodo dared to move closer. He perched behind a large plant at the base of the door. He began to make out some words.

"I don't know what you mean, Gandalf. The boys growing older, he will be able to protect himself."

"No, Bilbo! You must understand! Frodo isn't safe here! I noticed it myself! Peregrin and Meridoc have already been overcome by the power! It's their necklaces. It holds an evil authority! It turns people wrong, it turns them bad! Frodo will soon be with them! So will all of the Shire! They must leave!" Frodo's stomach turned with a horrible flop. He mustn't leave! He mustn't! Frodo controlled his feelings, straightened up and walked towards the door. He knocked politely and walked in the door. Gandalf and Bilbo stopped arguing at once.

"Hello Frodo! Please come and join us in a puff, won't you?" Bilbo greeted pleasantly. But Frodo could see a nerve twitching in his temple, he looked thoroughly distressed and harassed. Frodo looked over to where Gandalf was standing. Frodo could see also, that Gandalf's face was working into an explanation under his bushy brows and long beard. "Strange," thought Frodo, "And Wizard's are one of the most relaxed beings in all of Middle-Earth!"

"Ah...young Frodo, perhaps you should sit down," Bilbo stammered, his hands twisting his shirt, like he always is when under pressure. Frodo cautiously slid in a chair without a word. He looked up into his cousin Bilbo's face and saw that he was nervously biting his lip.

"What is it? Is something wrong?" Frodo asked innocently, not being able to bear the silence any more. Frodo looked around at Bilbo was making eye contact with Gandalf, obviously communicating.

"Why can't you just tell me!" Frodo burst out with anger. Bilbo and Gandalf looked shocked but finally they broke.

"Frodo, this is very hard for us but...there is an evil brewing, an evil like the ring, except it holds it's power in a necklace. The necklaces are spreading out and they are starting to take over the shire..." Gandalf spoke sternly. Frodo didn't hear the rest of what Gandalf had to say. His head was spinning. He stumbled out of his chair and walked away towards the door. He fumbled for the latch.

"Where are you going!?" asked Bilbo.

"I'm not going back! I won't!" and with that Frodo disappeared out the door.
