1 Scene One
Narrator: Hermes has been sent once more to deliver a message. He has been sent by Hera to tell the king that she is displeased with his kingdom. She demands more worship.
Hermes: (muttering to self) Hera angry…worship…pleased with kingdom…no worship…(lands in the king's palace)
King: Hermes! You have a message for me?
Hermes: Um, uh, oh yes. (Clears throat) Hera is pleased with the kingdom, so she does not want you to worship her any more.
King: But that isn't like Hera!
Hermes: Times have changed. I am a god. Do not contradict me. (Flies off)
2 Scene Two
Narrator: It is night. Zeus has noticed that Hera is looking angry.
Zeus: Hera! What troubles you now?
Hera: I demanded more worship but I have not gotten it. In fact, one whole kingdom has ceased to worship me.
Zeus: I am sure that it is just for tonight. They are probably busy with something else.
Hera: I fear that it is not so. I believe that there has been a mistake.
Zeus: Nonsense! Hermes would never make a mistake!
Hera: That is what you say. I say otherwise. Bring in Hermes.
Zeus: Hermes! Come here!
Hermes: (comes in) Yes Zeus?
Hera: What was it that you said to the king? Repeat your message.
Hermes: I told the king that you were pleased with his kingdom and did not want to be worshipped any more.
Hera: (angry) No! That is not what I wanted you to say! Zeus! Destroy him!
Zeus: Hera! No! It might have a one-time mistake! We will give him a new message to deliver to two villagers. We will then call them up to Mount Olympus and ask them what they had been told.
