Disclaimer: Dont own nothing. *sniffle*
Authors Note: Well, I juts threw this songfic together off the top of my head in 5 minutes. Its started as an Aragorn/Arwen thing, but I couldnt write it, it stunk so I resolved with Frodo and the other Ringbearers leaving from the Gray Havens to Lorien.
Across Distant Shores
Has our conscience shown?
Has the sweet breeze blown?
Has all the kindness gone?
Hope still lingers on.
The soft lapping of the waves on the shore, as soothing as they usually were, did not change the somber mood of the company. Pereigrin and Meriadoc are standing side by side, holding the reins of three ponies, curly masses of hair dampened from the drizzle. They had just finished their farewells to their cousin Frodo, Gandalf, Lord Elrond, and dear old Bilbo. Now Samwise walked to Gandalf.
"Good-bye, Gandalf. I suppose there will be no more fireworks at the Shire parties anymore, with you being away." He said softly.
The old wizard bends to one knee and ruffles the hobbit's mop of curls.
"Dont be sad. Merry and Pippen will bring their fair share of excitement in due time. Now go on back to your wife and daughter. And tell her of Bilbo's eleventy-first birthday. Some stories they shall make."
Sam nods, a slow smile creeping onto his face. Now, he approaches Frodo. He stood wrapped in his cloak, bark-brown curls wet from the rain. Frodo smiled ever so slightly, and Sam pulled him into a tight embrace.
"Why must you go Master Frodo?"
Frodo closes his blue eyes softly and says.
"I'm tired. The Ring is as heavy to bear now, without it even on my neck, as it was when I actually bore it."
Sam draws back, with his head lowered. He looks up.
Farewell dear Master. Bag End just won't be the same without Mister Bilbo and your presence."
Frodo smiles. "Namarie dear Sam. Namarie." And with a final nod to his cousins, he turns and walks to the boat with Gandalf.
Sam turns and walks to stand beside Pippin. The younger hobbit puts his arm around Sam's shoulders. Sam returns the gesture of sympathy. Once on the boat, Frodo turns to see Merry, Pippin, and Sam, arms raised in farewell. Tears of sorrow well up in his eyes and his heart aches sadly. The boat begins its long journey.
Are we listening
to hymns of offering?
Have we eyes to see
that love is gathering?
... So I walk up on high
and I step to the edge
to see my world bellow.
And I laugh at myself
as the tears roll down.
'Cause its the world I know
Oh its the world I know.
Authors Note
Well, short, sweet, to the point. Kinda redundant.. sorry. The song is 'The World I Know' by Collective Soul. I have it on the 7even Year Itch album. Well, Namarie! Enjoy! The Renewer
