Don't Cry

Disclaimer: All belongs to the lucky people who created Gundam Wing.
Dedication: Oi Zhu, happy or not...And also to our friend Mew Huiling, who died on the 11th of January, 2002. We miss her, and since this is about death...I thought I'd just dedicate it to her. I mean, I don't have much to offer her...

Underneath Heero's fingers, Duo stirred and let out a sound as he bumped himself on an injured area.
"Heero..."
Heero's lips stopped in mid-word and he abruptly looked up.
"Duo?"
"...Don't cry Heero. The Perfect Soldier doesn't cry."
"Nani? What are you talking about?"
Duo continued, as if not hearing Heero.
"Call me baka again, Heero. One...last time..."
"You can't die!"
Duo closed his eyes and smiled lopsidedly.
"The real Shinigami has come for me, Heero, and this time I can't run nor hide."
A tear made his way down Heero's cheek and landed on Duo's. He opened his stunning amethyst eyes and lifted a finger to wipe the tear away.
"Call me baka again, Hee-chan..."
"Ba...baka..."
"Remember, don't cry, Heero. Nakare nakitsubusu...[1]"
There was silence.
"Look out the window, Hee-chan..."
Heero looked. And there, in the centre of the window, were three bright stars. Just that three, in the velvety black night sky. Suddenly, they disappeared.
"Na-nani?! Can stars move that fast?"
"Look at the doorway now..."
The door stood slightly ajar, and Heero could just make out three shimmering figures slipping in quietly but remaining at the door.
"They're angels...Sister Helen once told me that when one dies, three angels would come for you...look!"
The figures were slowly becoming clearer. But as they did so, Duo's life slipped away more and more. It seemed their definition was decided by Duo.
"One of them has Solo's face- that's where I got my name...and the centre one has Father Maxwell's face- that's where I got my last name...And the last one...Sister Helen!"
Duo suddenly relaxed and grew limp. And yet, a small smile graced his bloodied but happy face.
"Sayonara, Hee-chan...and remember, don't cry...a-and you must be special, for you saw them when nobody else should have..."
"Duo...Duo? DUO!!!!! IIIIIIIIIIIIIIE!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Because I could not stop for Death--
He kindly stopped for me--
The Carriage held but just Ourselves--
And Immortality.

We slowly drove--He knew no haste
And I had put away
My labor and my leisure too,
For His Civility-

The God of Death who had ran, who had hidden, but had never told a lie. He wasn't a demon, but he was Shinigami.

I didn't cry, Duo.
I made sure I didn't cry.
So you could have your wish.
See you soon, baka...
And remember,
Aishiteru.
Until we meet again.

[1] nakare nakitsubusu = Don't cry. At least, I HOPE so...

A/N: I think that was the worst epitaph in the world...Hey, come on, I don't make a living out of it...
