If I Could Spend My Lifetime Loving You
The tears streamed down Padme's face, "Obi-Wan," she choked.
Obi-Wan embraced the young Senator, "Sssh…Padme. It'll be all right."
Padme buried her face into the Jedi Master's cloak, "No, no it won't"
Obi-Wan buried his own face into her lovely hair. "Yes it will." He murmured. "Your marrying the man you love today."
Padme choked up all over again and pulled back, "That's just it. I don't know if I love Anakin." The words "I love you" held in the air between the two.
Obi-Wan's eyes met hers. "You do. You know that." He said, although they both knew she loved him only a friend, not a lover.
Padme pursed her lips, "You know that I love you. Its just…" Her voice trailed off. She was marrying Anakin to keep him from turning to the dark side. To save him. To save the galaxy.
Obi-Wan embraced her again, "You know there is no other way."
Padme fought back the tears again. Her face was all ready stained with tears, "I will love you my whole life. I just wish-"
Obi-Wan pulled back and put his finger to her lips, "Sshh. No more. This has to be done. You know that."
Padme knew. She knew what Anakin was capable of and if she didn't marry him, if she didn't pretend that she loved him he might destroy everyone. She kissed Obi-Wan passionately. For the last time its seemed. For the last time, period. "If I could spend my lifetime loving you-"
But Obi-Wan stopped her again, "No ifs, Padme, only realties.."
Padme tried to remain confident and cool headed but her love for Obi-Wan didn't just go away on command. Padme wiped the tears from her face and headed up for the hall that led to the aisle. "If I could spend my lifetime loving you I would." She whispered. But she had to marry Anakin. She had no choice. "I love you Obi-Wan." She murmured.
Several meters behind her Obi-Wan whispered, "I love you too Padme."
