A/N: Since there is no section for The Hobbit, I thought I'd just post it here in the Lord of the Rings section. Please don't flame me for doing this, after all both stories are written by the ever so talented J.R.R. Tolkein. Thanks, R&R please! (
1.1 Told by Bolfur
Just as Mr. Bilbo Baggins have successfully retrieved the golden cup from the lair of Smaug, which had shone a light of hope onto our difficult journey; we face yet another crisis that quenched our faith for survival.
The morning after, as Mr.Baggins and the other 12 dwarves were resting and enjoying the golden cup outside the secret entrance on the Lonely Money, Bombur and I were down in the valley, which is not far away, guarding the ponies and baggage. Suddenly, smoke, the mountain rumbled, the roaring of Smaug could be heard through out the valley. The beastly Smaug glided out of the Mountain.
Quickly, Bombur and I crouched against the wall, hoping and finding ways to escape from the frightening eyes of the hunting Smaug. Despite of our attempt, he spotted us. He beat his colossal wings, and gust conveyed the jagged rocks toward us. With no hope of escaping, I tried to climb up the mountain to get help. However, the chances of climbing were slim, as the rocks were hurling towards me. The ponies were screaming with terror, and bucking, the baggage was tossed off from their backs and falls off the cliffs beyond the point of revival. As the rocks flew past me, blurring my version, I could see no sign of rescue, and I prepared to be slain by Smaug.
All of a sudden, a rope was laid down just beside me. I looked up, but through the hurling rocks, all I saw was a figure wearing a hood with long beard. Without demur, I called out Bombur and hold on to the rope. As we were being dragged up, we tried to climb up as quick as we can despite of the rolling rocks, to escape from the life and death danger. Finally, I had reached the land, but at the time my feet touched the ground, I found out the rope was almost creaked. "Bombur", the word flashed through my head, I reached to his hand and dragged as hard as I possibly can. The rope was creaked, but Bombur was saved.
At the same time danger was upon us, altogether, Mr.Baggins, other 13 dwarves and I had rushed into the secret entrance and closed the door, when Smaug came hurling from the North, licking the mountain-sides with flame, beating his great wings with a noise like a roaring wind. His hot breath shriveled the grass before the door, and drove in through the crack, then darkness fell as the door was closed just as he turned away and gone.
At last, we survived from the attack of the Great Smaug without much food left and no more ponies. And I prayed that this kind of situation would not fell upon me again.
