A little look into Krelian's head, right at the battle with Deus.
"When two men dream of you at night
Do you just dream of him…?"
-"The Wrong Man Was Convicted," Barenaked Ladies
I can still smell the smoke, thick and choking. The fires that dimly lit the night are still in the corners of my eye, the echo of your voice calling his name. The silence. The long silence that hung so heavy over us as your ship crashed, your life shattered in an instant. I lie awake at night plagued by that silence. The my voice, that cut the air in a swift and bitter stroke. I can't even remember what I said. I don't know what everyone else is doing, nor what the world is doing. All I know is that night, and his name. /His/ name. It is so echoed in my ears that I cannot hear any longer.
I helped build that god with all the emptiness in my heart. And now, it is being reduced to nothingness. How…fitting. Then, perhaps, that emptiness is where I shall go, when this is all over. It doesn't sound that bad. Almost pleasant. Is there room for me to walk with god? I do not think so. He shall not want one so jaded by the earth. I have spent too many years among the secular ones of the land, despite my attempts with the Solaris city to be higher. Reminded ever of those nights when I dream of her, yearning for another chance no matter how many times she dreams of only him. A irony-loving world would permit no difference.
Such regrets! What does it matter, when I know not how to live in the first place?
What a worthless struggle this is. They come to face me, the little specks of light derived from a dreary world. Their eyes blaze like fire, fighting the empty creation of mine with all their hearts. Ha. I knew of that once. That fire of hope and youth-it passes. Swept away with the tide of pain, in time. And we are all only a matter of time.
"Like as the waves make towards
the pebbl'd shore,
so do our minutes,
hasten to their end."
--William Shakespeare
