Wolvie And The Horse

He looked at me dubiously as he held the bridle loosely in his hand.

"How the hell do you put this on?" Wolverine asked me for the 7th time in the last five minutes.

I sighed and demonstrated once more on the unwilling horse.

"Get it, got it, good," I said and went back to brushing my black horse.

"Damn," I heard him swear.

I looked over at him and saw the tall chestnut mare throwing her head beyond Wolvie's reach.

He made a lunge at the horse's mouth and got it in, and she spit it right back out. He put it back in and got the leather over one ear. Then, he stepped on the dangling leather reins, and the bridle came back off as Spirit, the horse, stepped back. She gladly spit the bit out.

Logan swore again, and then Remy LeBeau, the Cajun, walked out leading a chunky chestnut gelding.

In minutes, Gambit had the horse bridled and saddled.

Logan turned his curses to the smiling Cajun as he (Logan) put the bridle back on Spirit.

He got it on that time, "It will stay on this time, darlin'."

He tried to put the saddle on, but she danced around. He finally got it on and cinched it.

"Gotcha darlin'," he whispered to her.

The rest of us (Gambit, Gypsy, Phoenyx, Lucifer and I) had already mounted. He tried to mount four times without a mounting block, just by jumping straight away, but he just couldn't reach the back of the mare. He then resigned himself to using the mounting block after cursing up a storm.

He got on and had to get back off after I said he had to wear a helmet or else. He grumbled, saying something about a healing factor, but as usual, I ignored him. After grumbling a bit more, he did as I asked.

He climbed back on, and finally we were off!

"Let's go! Let's go!" I yelled to my horse, Phantom, as I pushed him to a gallop right away.

"No! No!" Screamed Wolverine. Guess he didn't want to go fast. Figures.

"Yes! Yes!" Yelled Remy. He also pushed his horse to a gallop. As he did that, Spirit decided she wanted to race. Remy let his gelding go all the way.

"No! No!" Shrieked Gypsy, "Whoa! Ahhhh!!!"

"Fine," I said and slowed him down to a nice rolling canter. Immediately the other horses matched Phantom's gait. Except for Phoenyx and Lucifer. They kept going. Phoenyx's stud, a white Arabian called Firecloud, ran a couple of lengths ahead of Lucifer's gelding, a bay Warmblood called Loki. Both horses' tails were raised like flags, white and black. Within seconds they were out of sight.

To my surprise, Logan's horse flew past us as she saw Loki and Firecloud disappearing. Wolvie was screaming bloody murder, then, he fell. Either he fell or let go. I couldn't decide.

After falling, the horse stood beside him and looked at him like she was saying, 'what the hell are you doing down there?'

He growled as he grabbed for the reins and missed as she pranced away from him, whuffing slightly.

Gypsy rode her Andalusian mare, a black pointed gray called Nightfox, up to Wolverine. He glared at her, and she took off to stand next to me.

Remy almost fell off his horse, Ace, laughing. He didn't stop until Wolvie started walking towards him. Then, he trotted him off a safe distance away from Logan's nine-inch claws and evil temperament.

After we got back to the stable, we watched Logan try to untack Spirit. He got the bridle off easily but when he got to the part about removing the saddle, she kicked him. Hard and four times.

The first, second and third kicks just bruised, but the fourth broke the skin.

In the end, I unsaddled her. It took me all of two minutes. After I got her untacked, I ran away from Logan as fast as I could. I hid in Remy's bedroom while Hurricane Logan raged downstairs.
