Christian bounded up the stairs to his garret. Finally, after a long and trying day, he would be able to be alone with his love. He burst in the door, to see Satine sitting on their bed, absentmindedly brushing her hair. Christian snuck up behind Satine and tackled her to the bed.
"Christian! You scared me," cried Satine, laughing.
"Dance with me!" exclaimed Christian excitedly.
"Darling, there is a slight problem, we don't have music."
"Who needs music?" asked Christian, as he began to sing.
It's late in the evening,
I'm wondering what clothes to wear,
She puts on her makeup,
And brushes her long red hair.
And then she asked me,
Do I look alright?
And I say my darling,
You look wonderful tonight.
Go to a party,
And everyone turns to see,
This beautiful lady,
Walking around with me.
And then she asks me,
Do I feel alright?
And I say my darling,
I feel wonderful tonight.
I feel wonderful,
Because I see the love light in your eyes.
And the wonder of it all
Is that you just don't realize
How much I love you.
Satine sighed happily, as their dance came to an end.
"Christian, come to the balcony. The stars are amazing tonight."
Christian was happy to come along, and the two lovers stood and gazed at the velvet night sky.
Satine shut her eyes, and began to recite the childhood rhyme.
"Starlight, star bright, first star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might, have this wish I wish tonight."
"What did you wish for?" asked Christian.
"You'll find out soon enough!" said Satine, laughing.
Christian turned away and walked inside his garret, tears in his eyes.
"I'll tell you what I wished for," said Christian softly, looking around his empty garret, "I wish you were really here with me…"
