The song "For No One" is owned by the Beatles (Lennon/McCartney), the
characters mentioned are owned by Gene Roddenbury (I suppose). Don't sue,
I'm penniless.

People have always said, "You only hurt the ones you love." But that doesn't seem very fair. Shouldn't you protect your loved ones from harm, rather than cause it? It doesn't make any sense to me.
Your day breaks, your mind aches
You find that all her words of kindness linger on
When she no longer needs you
She wakes up, she makes up
She takes her time and doesn't feel she has to hurry
1 She no longer needs you
So what's the deal? What do you do with the people you love? Help them? Harm them? It seems pointless to harm a person you love. But then.... Then.... How does she feel about me? Does she know about the endless pain she's caused me?
And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears
Cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years
It's not just speaking as the man who loves her. Admiring anyone from a far is never a good feeling for anyone. But to be her creator and just be neglected like this.... Shouldn't there be a certain bond? A certain love we automatically share? That was always how I felt.... I guess the feeling wasn't mutual?
You want her, you need her
And yet you don't believe her
When she says her love is dead
You think she needs you
Eventually I'll come to terms with the unmistakable humanity she actually does posses. Her heart has a mind of its own (not a very good one). Until then, moping works for me. She was meant to be mine. She should have been mine. She is mine.
And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears
Cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years
But of course, I suppose I have a reputation from my actions in the past. She probably has a certain repetitive thought of "Oh, Harper's an awful womanizer." But I've always loved her. My heart's always known it.
You stay home, she goes out
She says that long ago
She knew someone but now he's gone
She doesn't need him
All these other men.... Gabriel. Him, she loved. What was so great about him? He was evil. I've never done an evil thing in my life. Okay.... So that's stretching the truth a bit. Then there's Dylan. Perfect little pretty-boy Dylan. You don't have to be blind to see those loving (excuse me, "friendly") embraces after their little "pep talks."
Your day breaks, your mind aches
There will be times when all the things she said
Will fill your head
You won't forget her
I know she cares, but I want more than that. I need more than that. I wish I could just look her straight in those perfect eyes and tell her: "Rommie, I love you. I love you with all my heart." And then, after she more than likely breaks my heart, I'll never be able to speak to her again.
And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears
Cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years
Why must love be such a cruel game?
