Hope On The Wings Of Dragons
Chapter 1: Cruel Fate
The sun shone brightly in the cloudless mid day sky. The wind whistled off of the sandy desert plains whipping rocks and dust mercilessly into the air and back into the ground again. This place was called the desert of death, and for good reason. Life was scarce here, aside from the roving hordes of monsters that stalked the night. This place was a place of nightmares. Even the bold and the crazy wouldn't venture here. But even in this harsh world life can still fight for a place.
A small form took shape in the shadow of some ancient ruins. The form was that of a blue haired child. He seemed unaffected by the intense heat and wind of his desert home. Smiling slightly he examined the age-old ruins. The ruins were victim to a tragedy of terrible proportion that happened so many centuries ago. The child touched the worn and decrepit stones, and began tracing little symbols that were so faint it was almost impossible to see. The child's eyes flickered for a moment as if in remembrance for the loss of a friend. As he turned to examine another stone, a titanic explosion rocked the ground. The force of the explosion was such that blue haired boy was thrown several feet into a sand dune.
The child quickly regained his senses and ran off toward the main body of the ruins. Even though he appeared to be a child of only ten years he possessed the strength and agility, that of a grown man. As he grew closer to the ruins he could see the epicenter of the explosion. The crater was still glowing hot with magic, loomed in front of him. He ran as quickly as his little legs would carry him, toward a small worn building in the middle of the ruins. Bursts of smaller explosions followed close behind him as he ran. Just as he reached his destination an arm grabbed him and pulls him inside.
As the two bodies fell upon the floor the small building was racked by several small explosions. Dust lofted down from the creaky old stones to settle gently on the floor. The two bodies shuffled and sat up. The blue haired boy stared at the dark indigo blue haired woman with questioning eyes.
"Mommy? What's happening mommy?" his voice cracked.
"They've finally found us. My darling Ryu.... I'm so sorry...I won't be able to be with you any longer.." she trailed off as tears began to stream down her face.
"What do you mean mommy? I don't want you to go!!" his voiced cracked a little more as he sniffled.
Just as the indigo haired one was about to answer two forms entered the room. She recoiled from them and grasped Ryu tightly in her arms. As the two forms came closer it became apparent what they were.
"I thought all of the guardians were dead." The young woman said half scared and shocked.
"They were...but not anymore...the resurrection of the goddess is at hand and were here to put an end to the only ones who stop it." one of the forms snickered. He held out his hand and began to gather the threads of magic into it. And with one motion he sent a titanic ball of magic at the two on the floor. Instinctively Ryu's mother threw herself into the blast, but it would be no use as the blast consumed the entire ruins.
Ryu's limp body float back to earth from the explosion. As he landed he left a small crater. The boy's young body was torn and bleeding from the blast. With what's left of his energy he tries to look for his mother, but he falls into unconsciousness, and the darkness consumes him.
