It takes a lot to know what is love

It's not the big things, but the little things that can mean enough

A lot of prayers to get me through

And there is never a day that passes by

I don't think of you

You were always there for me

Pushing me and guiding me

Always to succeed

Every gesture she had performed for him had been observed for as far back as he could remember- an eternity, it seemed to him now.

She had been all he had for the longest time, and then…

A solitary tear found its way down his face, scorching despite the chill in the air.

You showed me

When I was young just how to grow

You showed me

Everything that I should know

You showed me

Just how to walk without your hands

Bits of memories flashed through his mind, reminding him yet again how lucky he had been as a child, a teenager, a young adult…How she had taken his hand, so to speak, and helped him through life.  And how to depend on himself when he needed to.  She had known that he would outlive her, despite all the trouble he had managed to get himself into time and time again.

God has been so good

Blessing me with a family

Who did all they could

And I've had many years of grace

And it flatters me when I see a smile on your face

I wanna thank you for what you've done

In hopes I can give back to you

And be the perfect son

It had been amazing how close they had all become.  He had, of course, been the youngest.  But that had never truly bothered him…

His mind drifted back to azure blue eyes, eyes that had always shone with tender love for the both of them.  Eyes that, even when the woman to whom they belonged literally lay on her deathbed, refused to lose the fire behind them.

Another tear traced the pattern of the first as he smiled gently at the clearing sky above.

You showed me how to love

You showed me how to care

And you showed me that you would always be there

I wanna thank you for that time

And I'm proud to say you're mine

   "Aishiteru, okaasan…"
