The Wasp In the Orchestra Office

It was wind ensemble, 9th period. Boiling hot, at least 95 degrees out. That's not a good sign for New Jersey, especially in April. The hero of this story is a trumpet player named Collin. He believes he's God – but this time, I give him credit. A scream rang out from the orchestra teacher's office – a wasp was loose, flying around. Collin's impactful and quick thinking however, saved us all from almost certain destruction. He grabbed a cup, waiting for the moment that the wasp would land. Bang! He trapped it. "Now I'll leave it to die." He laughed.

The next morning in study hall, the first thing he wanted to see was if the wasp was dead yet. We carefully walked in, and he shook the cup. The wasp jumped in the cup, trying to get free. Collin and I jumped back, fearing it would somehow escape. He hit the cup again, laughing when it fell on it's back. "I should probably get rid of it," he said. He stuck a piece of paper under the cup, but he realized nothing else would fit underneath, so he (using his super trumpet brain skills), taped the cup to the piece of paper. He paraded his creation into our band directors office. "Collin! Get that thing out of here!" Collin made Laura (another person in study hall) come outside to assist him.

About 3 minutes later, they returned. "Did you get rid of it?" I asked. "Yup!" said Collin. "And you didn't get stung?" "Nope!" he said. "How did you do it?" I asked. Collin grinned – "It's outside, in a cup, taped to a piece of paper!"
