Disclaimer - Sailormoon is owned by a lot of people, most of whom
are not me, so don't get all worked up about my using the characters
in ways they weren't meant. I'm just a common or garden fanfic
writer without a hope in this dark and cruel world. Maybe.

"No... Please don't kill me. Please..."

"What do you have to live for?"

"I don't want it to end this way."

"Is that a good enough reason not to die now?"

"Maybe not, for you. But it is for me."

"What more do we have to live for? There is nothing."

"We can find something."

"Like what? We've done everything."

"No, there is always something. Something new."

"How many more 'new' things are there left?"

"In an entire universe?"

"No. No. This is still the best way."

She stared at the crystal-green stairway...

The stairway to the highest tower of the palace...

And she wiped the tears from her eyes.

Even though the world outside was a blanket of darkness...

The light from the very top of the tower shone...

Like a beacon to the people of Crystal Tokyo.

She started to ascend the stairway...

Her bare feet barely making a noise in the vast entry hall...

And remembered the days when she was in love.

She was a handsomely beautiful woman, that Ouranos...

How she loved her devil may care attitude to life...

Perfectly matching her own elegance and panache.

All of that had begun to fade into memory...

By the time she was told that it was over...

Between the two of them.

She couldn't accept that. She WOULDN'T accept that...

They were destined for each other, forever and ever...

And she paused upon the fifteenth stair to compose herself.

Destiny was a force nobody should try to fight...

She should have known that as well as anybody else...

But she chose to cut off their relationship in its prime.

She continued towards the tower, her hand against the wall...

Trying to keep her balance in her poor emotional state...

And everything she could see was green. Nothing but green.

Green everywhere. Glowing from the wall...

Like a living emerald, seeping into the corners of her mind...

Which she hoped would cleanse her of the memories.

So that by the time she reached the very top of the tower...

She had no idea how long she had been climbing...

Or if anyone had noticed her absence, or that or Ouranos.

She stared at the ceiling of the tower, at the sole light...

Bright though it was, it was a simple bulb...

As green as the rest of the tower. So very, very green.

Her hair had gone a peculiar shade of green as she'd aged...

Ouranos said she liked the change, that it suited her...

Whilst planning to leave her at the same time.

Nobody would miss Ouranos. Their roles had been decreased...

Almost removing them totally from the day to day activities...

Of the Palace and the Kingdom in general.

Perhaps this was the reason why. She didn't know...

Too many possibilities in this life. And in a long life...

Too much happening for the mind to keep up.

She reached over to the wall and switched off the light...

Then climbed to the nearest viewport...

And stared down at the city.

And she prayed, before she threw herself at that city...

That things were better in the next world...

Wherever that world might be.
