Summary: One look makes Tom realize a few things... Tom's POV.
"STOLEN LOOKS"
This felt too big to read into my log. I had to write it down, feels more real.
Today, outside the shuttlebay, Torres' eyes locked with mine. That quick, frozen look seemed like an eternity to me.
I could see past her dark, reflecting mirrors, her eyes seemed to be deep wells filled with sorrow.
For once her eyes didn't contain anger, disappointment, hostility, burning hate, nor all of them.
I think we reached into each others souls.
I realized it then. All the rumors about her father are true.
Her heart is not cold and rock hard as I imagined, her heart is sad.
I could see, feel, almost touch her sorrow.
My guess is that she's dying to get loved, but nobody will give her any love. Noone dares.
She knows that and tries to disguise her need for love by pretending to not care the least about it.
She does, it's her deepest desire, I know. Cause I've seen it. I could see her deepest thoughts and she could see mine.
For a moment in that moment, she seemed almost happy to see me, yet at the same time sad.
When it felt like my eyes finally was going to penetrate the shields around her heart, Chakotay called for her.
Of course she turned away, and when she looked back at me, her eyes were ebony mirrors again.
That single, glorified moment had passed.
I turned away too, not wanting her to read my soul without me being able to read hers at the same time.
And so we both went back to our own work , my inner still trembling with all those unknown feelings of hers.
Our moment locked together mentally hasn't seemed to change her feelings towards me, but I'll forever have another view of the cranky Chief Engineer.
Maybe her feelings have changed, and she's just hiding them, like her need for love?
No, I can't possibly hope that.
At least I know a little more about B'Elanna Torres.
Hiding away from love, shying away from friendship.
No, crew, she's not numb, crazy or just evil.
She's not human, not Klingon.
She's not completely Starfleet, nor completely Maquis anymore.
She's something-in-between.
She's misunderstood.
Trust me, I know. Cause I've seen it, felt it, almost touched it.
Her human heart, her Klingon soul.
