Chapter Two
As Daila came to, she was already fighting and kicking at whatever she thought was near her. The horses in the manger neighed like mad as they saw their little mistress act so strangely.
"NOOOOOO! I am not going to leave Pa. I am staying. Leave me alone! I don't like fighting or magic or anything. Leave me alone!"
The Companion hadn't budged a bit. Thalana clicked her front hooves together in annoyance.
:You really shouldn't be putting up such a fight, Chosen. The Herald's Collegium is much more exciting than this barn will ever be. You are being a twit.:
"So now you are insulting me to my face! What is your problem! Don't you get it? I can't wield a sword. I can wield a broom or a rake. And I can sew. Don't you think you've picked the wrong person?"
:Companions never make a mistake. You've got it in you:
This was enough, Daila thought. This horse-spirit thing was not going to leave her alone.
"Ok, then, er, Thalana. I'm going to go get my stuff and meet you back here. See ya!"
Daila ran to the house and closed the front door behind her.
:Trying to be tricky, eh?:
The Companion had somehow fit through the back door.
:Just try it, ok? You aren't going to lose anything. You stink at sewing, by the way. I saw your pillow. Why don't you just hop on and try the Collegium and give up if you absolutely can't take it.:
"Pa's going to be so mad, you horse."
:Leave a note. Then you don't have to see him mad.:
As Daila scrawled her note, the Companion looked over her shoulder. When she signed, she opened the front door. Then she neatly leaped onto Thalana and they went out.
:You won't regret it.:
