/uBut I can see him…/u

This is a short and dark poem. It is kinda weird, and since I hate cliffhangers, I am going to complete my lil' story before I post it. But I was bored outta my mind, so I wrote this one. The ending is sorta like the hork-banijr ending. Usual disclaimers apply. I had already done R/T story, so I need to be fair and do a J/C story. Enjoy!

~5 years after the destruction of the Yeerks~

My name is Cassie. I am as insane as any girl can be. Walmart is begging me to do jean ads, Letterman invited me to guest star on his show. I have been offered my OWN show. I have been offered a position on the COHAA:

Council of Humans and Andalites.

I turned them down.

And you're thinking, Cassie, you are so stupid. You are idoitc.

Well, frankly, I just don't care anymore. My life isn't about fame, not about Yeerks, not about morphing. Only about 2 things: My animals, and my Jake.

Jake is alive. I don't care that they found his body, floating from the wreakage of THE RACHEL. I don't even care that they burried him. He's alive.

To me.

Today, I saw Jake. I was in the Animorph Animal Center, and feeding a tiger.

I saw him, walking inside the tiger cage. He was acquiring a tiger. I wondered why he was doing that. I approached him.

"Jake, you already have a tiger morph. Besides, the Yeerks are dead! We don't need to aquire any more animals,"

He looked at me. "I didn't aquire this tiger," he said, softly. "It's a different species of tiger. Sheer power. It would help us defeat the remaining Yeerks."

"Oh, Jake…"

"Cassie. Please. You've done your part in the war. Now let me do mine. I need to beat the Yeerks."

"Jake, the Yeerks are dead! I'm in love with you!"

"Cassie, the mission comes first. We can settle down later, after the Yeerks are all dead."

He hadn't heard me the first time? Hadn't I said the Yeerks are dead?

"Jake. The. Yeerks. Are. Dead. Please. Stop. Fighting."

I said this slowly and carefully. This time, I think he heard me.

He turned to me. "Cassie. I'm dead. Did you ever stop loving me?"

And suddenly, I found I was in the middle of the tiger cage, talking to thin air, with specatators staring at me, as if I were crazy.

Yes, Jake was still alive. The difference was, only I could see him now.

But I could see him. And that would be enough.
